George Washington's Thanksgiving Proclamation from October 3, 1789:
"By the President of the United States of America. a Proclamation.
Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor—and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”
Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be—That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks—for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation—for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war—for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed—for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted—for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.
and also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions—to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually—to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed—to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord—To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and us—and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.
Given under my hand at the City of New-York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

But the left told me America wasn't a Christian nation and that the founders were all atheists.

Happy Thanksgiving to all y'all and loved ones!
Response from the Atheist Christian Scholars:
"Doesn't mean the Christian God, cause he didn't say Jesus specifically. So no, this does not mean that nations forefathers built it on Christian values. As they were hardcore diests."

Lots of them (including some of the most influential like Franklin and Jefferson) were Deists. Few (if any) were atheists. Washington had interesting religious views that put him somewhere between Unitarianism and Deism. He was decidedly-NOT a Trinitarian Christian.

My favorite story of George Washington was that his marriage to Martha was arranged (she had a lot of money). They didn't date before getting married. But they fell deeply in love during marriage and stayed together for life.
I wouldn't try that these days.

According to George Washington's Mt Vernon he was an active member of the Anglican Church. That seems to be firmly in the Christian camp.
George Washington was Anglican

The Founding Fathers were mostly Unitarians and Deists. They certainly were not Catholics.
A treaty of peace and friendship between the United States and Tripoli that was approved by George Washington explicitly stated: “The government of the United States is not in any sense founded on the Christian religion…”
Finally, and most obviously, if the founding fathers intended to include Jesus, the Bible, or other particular aspects of the Christian faith in the founding of our nation, they would have expressly done so. However, the two references to religion that are in the Constitution contain exclusionary language. The First Amendment says, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion. . .” and in Article VI, Section III, “… no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.”

George Washington was Anglican
As an adult, there is no record of his EVER having referenced "Jesus" or "Christ" in any of his public writings or speeches. When referencing a deity, he routinely used terms like "Grand Architect" and "Providence" that were used mostly by Deists. In his private letters, he used "Providence" more than any other term for the divine.
Washington came of age after the First Great Awakening and before the Second. Americans at that time (especially the educated, upper classes) just were not very religious at that time.
But if it is important for you to believe his was a Trinitarian, go for it.

As an adult, Washington served as a member of the vestry (lay council) for his local parish. In colonial-era Virginia, office-holding qualifications at all levels—including the House of Burgesses, to which Washington was elected in 1758—required affiliation with the current state religion and an undertaking that one would neither express dissent nor do anything that did not conform to church doctrine.
Seems like a safe bet that he was a Christian. A good one. The kind that doesn’t feel the need to force his beliefs on others.

Mostly, huh? Is that a fact? Well, I guess if it’s important for you to believe he was a Deist, go for it!
