Anyone ever dealt with it? A buddy I grew up with, looked up to, we are pretty sure he has it.
This guy—tip top shape. Fireman. College basketball player. Three beautiful kids. Beautiful wife.
Life sure doesn’t seem fair when you hear this news and see what it does to a person.

Is it though? Sounds like he's had a damned good life up to this point.

A coworker had a relative who died from it a few years ago. It is an absolutely devastating illness. He died within a few weeks of diagnosis leaving behind a wife and two kids.

They’ve ruled out any chance that he got it from an animal. Doing another spinal tap tomorrow is what I was told.

What do you mean you think he has it?

Say your goodbyes soon, it moves in days and weeks.

I had a great uncle that died from it. Doctors said he got it from eating squirrel brains.

Don’t you get this from eating infected deer? If so I don’t think there is a cure

First spinal tap came back negative Thursday/Friday, but since then, he has gone down hill and they have brought in a neurologist from the Mayo Clinic. Because of symptoms, they are diagnosing it as Jakobs…

I thought they needed a brain biopsy to diagnose
And yeah usually from infected venison and some other meat
Think there is a familial component too

Prion. Hopefully, they find how it was "infected" with it. I've read some reports of prions being able to live in the soil indefinitely after an animal dies from it. But, they have discovered so much about them since I first learned of it, I don't really know much. I know its an abnormal mis-shaped protein that once it touches another protein molecule it turns into a mis-shaped molecule. I don't think there is a cure. I know 5 years ago, if they found someone had it in a brain lesion, they would incinerate every tool used in the surgery.

It is extremely rare. One case per million people. Maybe he will get good news.

I knew a man with a similar series of diagnoses. He died of limbic encephalitis. Looks a lot like CJD. It is most frequently caused by a paraneoplatic syndrome that results from cancer, but that isn't the only thing that can cause it.
