Bari Weiss, a Jewish liberal lesbian, gave the keynote address at the Federalist Society:
It is a must read:

I am here because I know that in the fight for the West, I know who my allies are. And my allies are not the people who, looking at facile, external markers of my identity, one might imagine them to be. My allies are people who believe that America is good. That the West is good. That human beings—not cultures—are created equal and that saying so is essential to knowing what we are fighting for. America and our values are worth fighting for—and that is the priority of the day.

Good read. Although the lesbian part caught me off guard.

So Jews support filling Western countries with sand people, but cant understand why theres growing antisemitism in the West.

This crowd will disagree with many of Bari's positions, but the simple fact is that she is both smart and reasonable ... even if you disagree with some of her conclusions. Anything she has to say is worth listening, even if you find yourself disagreeing in the end
quote:
And that antisemitism is the world’s oldest hatred. And that in every generation someone rises up to kill us. “They tried to wipe us out, they failed, let’s eat” as the old Jewish joke goes.

Very good speech. I just read it. There's a link there to watch it. I might do that as well.
The Jewish community in the US has been quite animated since 10/7 and rightfully so. I do wish they would get this concerned about the US and our future here, and what's done by our government and the other forces currently engaged in a campaign for the controlled demolition of our nation.
To Weiss's credit she does make some connections here, but where was this passion in the Jewish community before 10/7? Where was it during COVID? Where has it been as they've weaponized federal law enforcement against political opponents? Where has it been as the federal government launched an assault on the First Amendment and mounts an assault, continuously, on the Second Amendment?
Weiss points out the rot and decay that is evident in the West, put on display immediately after 10/7. She expertly points out the disgusting behavior at many universities, such as Harvard. That rot didn't just materialize on 10/8. It's been here and it will lead to the targeting of Jews here, in the US, as well as many other groups. Indeed, some of this targeting has already taken place.
If the current incarnation of the destructive left gets what it wants, the destruction of this nation, what does the Jewish community think will happen to them here, and in Israel?
When I see these great, impassioned speeches by Weiss and people like Ben Shapiro, I'm impressed. However, I'm also left with the feeling that they see themselves more as Jews living in America, than Americans that are Jewish. It's the America and Americans part that has the Constitution, the ideals like freedom of religion, and the track record of fighting to preserve those ideals here and abroad. Without the US, Israel does not exist. Maybe the Jewish community should generate some passion over the prospect of losing both, because if we fall, Israel will as well.

quote:Can you blame them? Thinking of themselves FIRST in the context of their homes and SECOND in the context of their religion/ethnicity has not worked well for them in the past. Didn't work in Spain. Didn't work in Russia. Didn't work in Poland. Didn't work in Germany.

Why would they expect it to work here in the long term?

Generally, this is who they are. "Rootless cosmopolitans" as Wayne LaPierre described them.
Sarah Silverman once did a bit about how she broke up
with her boyfriend bc he flew an American flag on his front porch. She said it was her Jewishness that made it uneasy for her.

Weiss has been fighting the fight for a while now.
Here’s her resignation letter to the New York Times.

But the lessons that ought to have followed the election—lessons about the importance of understanding other Americans, the necessity of resisting tribalism, and the centrality of the free exchange of ideas to a democratic society—have not been learned. Instead, a new consensus has emerged in the press, but perhaps especially at this paper: that truth isn’t a process of collective discovery, but an orthodoxy already known to an enlightened few whose job is to inform everyone else.

Her podcast is where I heard the Sam Harris brutal takedown (for Lefties-The Right has known this for decades) of Jihadism that I posted yesterday. I don't agree with her naivete about policy, but I believe she is honest rather than ideological,

quote:This was always the goal of “multiculturalism”. It’s why I hate hyphenated descriptions of people. Have an asian friend, she’ll tel you “I’m an American, with asian heritage”. She doesn’t water down her citizenship by saying “I’m asian-american”. Thsts rare these days tho.

I might not agree with her on everything, but she advocates free speech and freedom of the press, which are sadly paramount these days.
