Not only will Republicans not let Biden be an afterthought, neither would Newsom. He'd deflect criticism/skepticism of the last 4 years with "that was Joe Biden".
I'm not suggesting Trump wouldn't be Newsom. I think he wins the '24 general as long as he doesn't frick up, but Newsom would shrink the margin for error.

I not saying this in any relation to how Don will do in the general
just saying newsom has plenty of things to rip into if/when the time comes

Any liberal has plenty of things to rip into from the Right and even the center. That's not what we're talking about. We're talking about turnout on the Left, correct? I don't think we're talking about winning '24 by turning Biden voters into Trump voters. And you're suggesting the Newsom has as many/as big negatives as Biden for Leftists? I just don't see it, but it's all idle speculation at this point. Hopefully you're right given I don't believe Biden will be the nominee.

How do Dems admit that Biden cannot beat Trump and then say with a straight face that 2020 wasn’t rigged. If they don’t run Biden they are saying what everyone knows and that is 2020 was a sham.

I just see a lot of people that think newsom is some angel. he has plenty that would make even some of the biggest libs cringe
