So I am wanting to get plans made for an addition on our home. Have had multiple quotes from architects and the price was insane($10-15k). Looking to add 500-600 sq ft. but also up for ideas on how to utilize wasted space in our current lay out. Has anyone had any experiences working with a drafter and if so, how was it? Any recommendations in the BR area?

Someone is going to come along and correct me on this but I think the plans have to be done (or at least stamped) by an Architect to get past Permits?

I don't think anyone can just draw up plans and start building on your own home.*

*Sarcasm intended since I don't think the government really ought to be telling me what I can and can't do in my own house.

Benny Griffin Design 225 400-5762. MR. Benny was easy to work with, drew up a 350 square foot storage room addition.

I used Kabel home design in Denham springs when I had my plans drawn up for an addition. It was super easy and they were very professional and knowledgeable.

This was 10 yrs ago though.

Call your parish permitting office and they will tell you the requirements specific to your area and planned construction type. Some parishes require a stamp for a metal building but homes will need to pass open wall inspections per a specific wind rating (hurricane ties, etc.)
