This is on the St. John Facebook page from an hour ago.

Early morning today. Big thanks to Helena Moreno and her team for helping us fight this fight. But it's not over yet. This isn't just about us, it's about fighting for our entire community, those who may not have a platform like we do and connections like we do. Hoping we can use this opportunity as a catalyst for change to better ALL New Orleanians. Thanks for everyone's support. Will keep you posted on if/when we're able to reopen.

Do people realize that Entergy is a business, too?

Did this business just not pay for their power and thought they should be operating for free? As I business owner, I pay Entergy for my business every month. I do not let it rack up over 6 months before I question myself "Oh I haven't paid Entergy in a long time."

This entire situation just doesn't make sense and it does not seem like Entergy's fault...

It's not terribly clear. The owner says he pays 2 grand a month for utilities. This 40 grand bill suddenly appeared at some point and relates to a different meter in the building. It doesn't sound like he was being billed regularly for the bill at issue, but again, things are blurry.

Are you white knighting for energy companies to be run strictly as for-profit ventures? ''

You didn't read. Entergy has had problems in both commercial and residential properties with their meters and not reading them correctly, then out of nowhere the customers owes a ton of money that should've been paid over months and possibly years.

If someone told me "hey we actually charged you less than what we were supposed to do for the last six months" I'm telling them "you're SOL."

Landlord probably has some level of culpability by not explaining to the tenants what is going on, but Entergy providing incorrect readings from THEIR meters and suddenly realizing they are "owed" a ton of money is an Entergy problem.

They can only make as much profit as the Public Service Commission allows. Be mad at your elected officials, not at the people who run a pretty successful business.

Entergy is a monopoly that buys and pays for commissioners in order to make incredible profits.

Entergy has absolutely no exposure to negative factors and have no pressure to deliver value to the customer. Their approval for rate increases and fees are above 90% approval. They are allowed to make some of the cheapest energy in the united states on infrastructure bought and paid for by Louisianians and then sell that energy out of state for their own profit.

The Entergy shills on this board need to get real.

You sound like you have been spoon-fed all this nonsense by some anti-energy fools.

I'm not pro-Entergy either, but I did my research, and so many more people seem to believe what the next person told them.

It is a monopoly (because of public service commissioners). Entergy has plenty of incentives to do well—their 13,000 workforce lives in our communities.

That is the entire goal lol. They SHOULD be making the cheapest energy in the United States and they are.

$2000 a month for a restaurant seems really low

And they are selling out of state for their own profit.

Then make Louisianians pay for all the maintenance and infrastructure to deliver it out off state. Even going as fas as shutting of power to Louisiana residents because it was more profitable to sell out of state at the moment.

Glad this chef finally spoke up to expose some of Entergy's tactics in New Orleans of not reading meters then taking months to rectify the situation.

Figured one if thise 13K workforce would have shown up to the public works commission. Instead Entergy hired actors to pose as citizens and take up the public forum period pushing Entergy's agenda.

Yeah this story doesn’t pass the smell test from the business owner’s side. Either you are paying your bill every month or you aren’t.

If he is paying the building owner for utilities then why is the bill in his name?

Never thought I’d be giving props to Entergy/Louisiana, but here we are. My electricity bill is nuts in Minnesota compared to when I lived in New Orleans.

Entergy costs $0.009885 per kWh.
My new electricity costs $0.13382 per kWh.

Example: My Minnesota electricity bill is $175/month, which correlates to around $13 in Louisiana. (These figures do not include fees, just electricity costs.)

Entergy New Orleans is regulated by the New Orleans City Council which seems odd to me for a major utility, seems like I remember some post from the past accusing Entergy New Orleans of being corrupt and operated similar to a mafia.
I’ve worked for other utilities in Louisiana, but I have not worked for Entergy, as large as Entergy is, I have often wondered why they have an Entergy Louisiana and a separate business unit for New Orleans.

My 3100 sf house averaged about 490/mo. this past summer. There's no way a restaurant would only be $2k.
