Big skies, warm weather, and beaches rule in 2023. South Carolina, North Carolina, and Montana are proven winners year after year after year — interest for moving to these states has outpaced moves out from 2020 through 2023.
Dense, urban areas are (still) losing out: California, New Jersey, and Connecticut all had significantly more outbound moves than inbound.
Move over Texas and Arizona. Of the most searched states with at least 10K mover queries, North Carolina, Florida, and Colorado are attracting the highest proportions of inflow in 2023.
2023’s top cities to move to so far by highest inflow-to-outflow ratio are Asheville (NC), Ocala (FL), Myrtle Beach (SC), Dillon (CO), Greenville (SC), Saint Augustine (FL), Wilmington (NC), Franklin (TN), Pensacola (FL), and Kissimmee (FL).
Which big(ger) cities are making a post-pandemic comeback? #1 Charlotte, NC is the most popular big city to move to in 2023. Followed by #2 Denver (CO), #3 New York (NY), #4 Tampa (FL), and #5 Boston (MA).
California Leavin’. California’s major cities are still losing big in 2023, with San Francisco, San Diego, and Los Angeles among the bottom 5 biggest cities seeing way more moves out than in.

Greenville, SC is a great city. I'd definitely raise a family there.

Liberal hellholes are being moved out of? Conservative places are being moved to? Color me shocked.

Conservative states but liberal cities within those states.

We go to Ashville and that general area annually for club swimming meets. It has absoltuley blown up and continues to every single year!

I'd rather have LA as a low move in state so CA lefties can go somewhere else.

So we're not dead last?

And then the conservative places will be liberal hellholes and the migration will continue.
If you're seeing more California plates show up where you live, brace yourselves.

In 15 years that city will be run down by leftist locusts and then they'll move on somewhere else

I wouldn't say that. Places like Myrtle Beach and Greenville aren't traditionally liberal.
And Asheville is very conservative outside the city limits.

That is exactly what has happened to Asheville and that surrounding area.

Millennials have ruined Asheville. It used to be an awesome little town 20 years ago.

Never been to Asheville, but if its better than all those others, I need to go!
And no shocker about big states and cities losing people. But the sad part is history will likely repeat itself. People get tired of big city crime, politics, etc., but don't change their voting habits, then get mad when it happens in their "new" town.

40% of the Asheville population is 55+. It wasn’t millennials that ruined Asheville. It was the boomers that moved in 20 years ago.

<---------- Conservatives are seeking refuge here as well. Come on down and strengthen things up.

No, but a real outlier in the south.

I've seen different versions of these types of "moving to" lists and you can get very different results based on how you quantify it. I recently saw one and the great state of SC wasn't even in the top 5 or 10.
