I recall seeing it make a lot of waves amongst progressive fart sniffers. A major series calling out all of America's flaws, saying we used to be great but are no longer. They ate it up.
4 years later Trump steps into the ring and coins MAGA. Progressives were quick to attack the second A in MAGA, asking what did Trump mean by "again"? Of course, no answer worked, it was a racist dog whistle.
Why, then, did these same fart sniffers eat up that Jeff Daniels scene at the time?
I recall seeing it make a lot of waves amongst progressive fart sniffers. A major series calling out all of America's flaws, saying we used to be great but are no longer. They ate it up.

The past is the past. We either were great or we weren't.
Progressives have really fricked things up in a hurry. I can see conservatives, within a 5ish year span, go from America is great to America is no longer great.

I remember watching the series.
The second season explored how the media with just the right editing can manipulate a story. If memory serves me that season takes places as a series of depositions were being taken for being sued by a subject of a story that was edited to say something he didn’t regarding US troops using Sarin gas.

That's fair, but how much is the lights coming on and how much is really decline?
I think both, FWIW. And I'd agree if you said the decline has gotten really steep really quickly. But you can go back and see how we (including, perhaps especially the GOP) were laying the foundations for it then, of course.
