Hmm, I don't see many people walking around Old Metairie except for those jogging, but that's the same as the Northshore. Not that there aren't easy walks to businesses in OM, I just hardly see anyone doing that.

A bungalow in a rough part of Oakland is significantly more expensive than an equivalent-sized home Uptown.

A home I bought in the 1980’s in the L.A. area sold for a little over a million in 2006.

Depending on where you live in California you don’t get much for $1 million.

It comes to supply and demand. Old Metairie I assume is nice or close to where people want to be.

Rhetorical question…

Someone in any city differentiates that they live in “Old Metairie” vs. just “Metairie,” do they believe they’re different than the normal folks that live there?

You have “North Bossier” vs. “South Bossier” as well. “North Bossier” people always want to be sure you know they’re from “North Bossier,” not just Bossier.

“West Monroe” and “Monroe” is another.

When I was in Houston, there is a neighborhood called “West University” that had incorporated. It’s right in the middle of Houston, but they would tell you they lived in “West U.”

Old Metairie is a neighborhood of Metairie just like English Turn, Garden District and Broadmoor are neighborhoods of New Orleans.

Not advisable to bring a hose to a gun fight in Old Metairie.

Old Metairie is the best place to live in Louisiana IMO.

Close to NOLA to enjoy all the benefits.
Within Jefferson parish to enjoy infrastructure and police.

Yes, no public schools, but I don’t think that’s a concern to many OM residents.

As an Old Metairie resident I can’t really say whether we’re pretentious, but we ARE better than everybody else.
