This is the way. A rifle is a tool, just like a shovel, they wear out and break. Always have spares.

Could you post the links for what is needed? Also would this everything I need except for magazines and ammo?
Yes.
You can choose a color. Black, tan, green, or grey. Just need to a search. The magpul buttstock is worth the extra money

These are just some examples.
Search out BLEM upper or BLEM lower and have at it. Make sure the uppers come with a charging handle (CH) and bolt carrier group (BCG).
May need a rear pop up sight. Most of the completed uppers for cheap come with a front A post. You can buy a handle or a pop up for the rear sight.
They literally snap together with two take down pins.
Make sure the calibers are the same for the lower and upper.

Colt no longer belongs in that group, IMO.
Sig makes a nice first AR that's in the low end of your range. Spend the money on a decent scope

Didn't Rand Corp or some similar think tank do a study once and calculated that like 60% of the population would die within 2-4wks if it ever does get apocalyptic... and the only ppl that will survive are either those with end of days underground bunkers or incredibly in-shape former military/survivalist types.
There’s a million different scenarios. I could go to bed tonight and never wake up to grab Muh gun because the dang Russians nuked New Orleans and accidentally hit Old Metairie instead.

Bro, I’m doing this as a new hobby because I like to shoot. Not trying to arm my neighbors. If shite ever hits the fan it’s literally a roll of the dice whether you’ll live or die.
Some of us approach it differently. Especially those of us who live remotely.
If shtf then it's far more uncertain in high population areas than it is in remote areas far away from urban areas. It may be a roll of the dice in the cities but for many of us it is a sure thing ... our chances of survival both in peace, in war and post shtf, are better than city dwellers who may be leaving their fate to a roll pf the dice.
Firearms are made for one thing. One purpose.
Firearms will fail eventually.
One is none and two is one.
So you're doing this as a hobby? 3-gun? Paper punching? Reenactment? Run & Gun? What?
Also, I'm not your Bro young man. I'm probably old enough to be your Grandpappy. I was probably out of the service before you were born. I'll be your friend on this forum in this online community to try to help you with a question you asked .... but I'm not your Bro.
Good luck with your new "hobby." How a firearm is a hobby ... I do not know nor do I understand what you mean by "hobby."

A lot of ppl start off by buying the cheapest rifle they can from PSA, BCA, etc, Then ultimately sink hundreds and hundreds more into it by replacing all the parts that came on it instead of just buying a BCM or something similar in the first place that had all the high quality parts and QC to begin with.
It’s all about the journey and learning. I’ve spent thousands more than I should have buying and upgrading parts to get what Reddit tells me is tier 1. Along the way I have learned so much and put tens of rounds through my multiple setups.

PSA makes good gear.
IWI is another one I’d check out. Aero as well.
Leave enough money to feed it

Most buyers will get an AR simply to have one, often prompted by events that suggest you may not be able to soon; shootings etc.
I know someone who bought a S&W M&P when Obama won, along with 10 magazines and a case of Golden Tiger. He's probably halfway through that case now. He hasn't changed his mind on owning it, he just doesn't shoot it a lot. He does shoot handguns more, and shoots the hell out of some target stuff. And every so often he takes the AR out and runs a mag or so through it.
Some of us bought an upper and a lower and saw how easy it was to snap together, got more uppers, and started building stripped from the ground up. The collection tends to grow fast that way.

I’ve got over 20 guns. Rifles, shotguns, pistols. I’ve got a 632 acre farm that’s probably more “remote” than you are. And I don’t recall asking you specifically for any opinion on the matter. God bless you.

Absolutely, but it's that "enough" word that's the issue for 99.99% of gun owners. We'll never shoot out a non stainless barrel, we'll never fatigue a bolt until it fractures. Before the shift to M4s I saw some ragged out A2s and A3s in the Army that had been around a long time and had a lot of abuse, and it all still shot. Most people don't have the time and they're not interested in spending that much money on the 10s of thousands of rounds it would require to break a non-maintenance item on an AR.
Lucky Gunner abused the hell out of these Bushmasters for an ammo test, and the only failures were operational (stuck brass, failure to feed, etc). And none of those even happened with good ammo.
Federal: 10,000 rounds, 0 malfunctions.
Brown Bear: 10,000 rounds, 9 malfunctions (5 stuck cases, 1 magazine-related failure to feed, 3 failures to fully cycle)
Wolf: 10,000 rounds, 15 malfunctions (stuck cases)
Tula: DNF (6,000 rounds in alternate carbine, 3 malfunctions)

PSA’s stuff is just fine for someone just wanting an entry level rifle.

He has a shotgun, a rifle, and a 4wd...
Plus he kills hogs with a knife. Everybody watch out for this guy.

I’d say watch out for the doomsday prepper that has to tell everyone how ready he and his family is for the apocalypse while us city folk might as well be dead. And we don’t have enough guns. And don’t come in here to the forum asking gun questions because it’s not a hobby. He gets to tell you what your hobbies are.

Ever hear of “collecting”?
What about “building”?
Both of those are pretty damn popular hobbies.
Shooting guns can also be a hobby.

Just wanted to interrupt the pissing match to inform OP that Aero has this blem upper in stock for $370. You’ll have to buy a CH and BCG but that Ballistics Advantage barrel will flat out shoot.

I'm sorry, but we're going to need a Tier rating to see if this is an acceptable purchase or not.
