I just ordered the blemish PSA AR for $500 after taxes. Along with 1200 rounds of 5.56, 4 extra mags, and a relfex site. Spent around $1500 for everything.

What ammo and reflex sight did you get?

That is a good buy. Will do everything you need to do with mags and red dot

Far be it for me to spend your money, but this is something I'd look at:

I've got some of these mags, and they run great.
LINK
They are steel, not plastic or aluminum. They have great reviews, there's been a couple threads here on them. Occasionally they go on sale cheaper, but even at $9 apiece it's not a bad price. The place has a flat-rate shipping, about $13 or so.

As for red dot sights, this is a knockoff that has gotten very good reviews, and I have a couple and love it.
LINK
Yes, it's Chinese-made.
Just about all of the lower priced ones, including brands such as Holosun and Sig, are actually Chinese. Speculation is that they are coming from the same factories.

There's some reviews on Youtube, a guy named 704 Tactical, that looks at stuff like this. He takes a cheap sight, shoots some, takes his gun and beats the sight against stuff, and sees if it breaks or loses zero, and shoots more.
This sight held up great.
It's $69 on Amazon, with a 20% coupon to bring it to $54.

It's a "shake awake" red dot, meaning if you turn it on, it will power down after a couple of minutes, and you just leave it that way. Then whenever you pick the gun up, the movement activates and the sight comes back on. So they're "always ready", one less button to push.

Holosun HS403R reflex sight.

For ammo, I bought bulk from lucky gunner. 1000 rds of 5.56 55 grain FMJ M193 and 200 rds of 5.56 62 grain FMJ M855.

Also, 500 rds of 9mm for my glock 19.

Ummmmmm, well, yeah chambered in Wylde but ... do you really want to run .223 in your AR or wouldn't it be better to concentrate on surplus 5.56?

I mean there is a difference, not only ballistically speaking but also , in brass thickness and case life.

You haven't lived until you've had to get a stuck .223 case out of a chamber with the case having had the base and rim ripped out by the AR's ejector.

Look for a Wylde chambered AR and shoot both but ... stick with 5.56. Save the .223 for .223 specific bolties or other varmint specific sticks.

Good post. I feel like this got over looked, because OP keeps mentioning .223.

Yes, technically an AR will shoot .223 and 5.56, but you need to primarily shoot 5.56.

A Ruger Mini 14 that has been mentioned shoots .223, but not 5.56. Don't ever try to shoot 5.56 out of Mini 14.

We're getting in the weeds here, but again... You are absolutely correct. That is what I have for my children to deer hunt with so they can shoot 64 gr. .223 soft points. And the only AR I shoot .223 out of. (Because it's made for it)

***In conclusion, if you get an AR, shoot 5.56.***

summary of 300 Blackout vs 556/223

when times are tough (cough cough covid) you'll find 556/223 ammo easier than 300 blackout

If you want budget and reliable, I would suggest this:
LINK

That's a basic Anderson lower, complete, for $99. It's milspec and lots of people use stripped Anderson lowers for builds.

You probably won't find a cheaper assembled lower, and would have a hard time building it for less.

For upper, look at this,
A basic Del-Ton upper 16" barrel. I bought one, it comes with the BCG. As I remember, free shipping.

That gets you a basic rifle for under $400, total. You would need a rear sight or red dot

That's only the case for the target model. 5.56 is fine out of all the other Mini 14s, though I certainly wouldn't buy one over an AR-15 in today's market.

If you really want some stopping power forget the 300 blackout and get you a .458 SOCOM!

Just fyi it’s not cheap or practical

Damn I love these threads. Seeing all the guns in possession of the good guys is awesome.

I have had quite a few ARs but I am sad they were lost in boating accidents. A few of them were PSAs and no issues.

A few more questions. What mags should I get and what ammo should I get?
Hex mags are on sale at magwarehouse.com for $8 bucks last time I looked. I have had no problems with those.

Be sure to stock up on 30s but don’t forget to get a couple 10s and 20s for when shooting off a bi-pod.
