That opening scene with Tina is incredibly well done and holds up to this day.

One of the best horror kills ever.

I wish they would have kept Freddy scary throughout the series instead of becoming a caricature of himself.

The scene when he pokes through the wall is also badass.

What are everyone’s thoughts on the original?

The Depp kill is also wild.

I also watched part 2 for the first time and that shite was terrible

The original is in my top 5 horror movies of all time.

Brilliantly terrifying concept, incredible special effects for the time, and an iconic villain that is just awesome.

Should have skipped 2 and went straight to Part 3. 3 is the best sequel of them all.

As said it was a great concept and well done. They should've kept Freddy as he was in the 1st instead of going so over the top in the sequels. Friday and Halloween did a better job keeping their villain scary with a little campy stuff but not crazy.

Yep. Really 1,3, and New Nightmare are the only ones worth rewatching.

New Nightmare is about as close to the original Freddy as it gets in the sequels.

I watched it yesterday for the first time in over 10 years. I'm currently watching part 2 for the first time.

It's the worst one in the series by far.

The Nancy trilogy is probably the greatest in horror. Those 3 movies are so good. The original is definitely the best of the bunch but Dream Warriors is one of the great horror sequels and New Nightmare was a great concept that was both scary and had some originality/wasn't just a rehash of the previous films.

Nightmare 2 sucks but I always loved the pool scene, one of the best in the series.

Dream Warriors

I saw Dokken in concert the year this movie came out. They did not play this song.

Dokken- Dream Warriors

The soundtrack in the first movie sets the creepy and crazy up so well. They somewhat surprisingly didn't reuse a lot of those musical themes in the sequels.

I caught the Depp kill scene when I was 8 or 9 years old. It scared the ever loving shite out of me. To this day, I can’t find the motivation to watch any of the Elm St movies. I’ll watch any other ones but that series. Not sure why, but it left a permanent anxiety mark.

Nightmare on Elm Street is the only horror franchise that actually scares me.

It's a talent of 80s horror makers I'm not sure many have replicated since: making a movie both frightening and fun. I miss that. Somewhere along the line it just became about sadism and misery. I miss those who could ride that line...and yeah, a lot of the 80s franchises went too far to the hokey side eventually.

it's why i love all the late 90s Scream and post-Scream horror resurgence movies (I Know What You Did Last Summer, Urban Legend, H2O, The Faculty, et al). they managed to hold onto some of that 80s scary/funny vibe, just updated for a 90s crowd (of which i was right in the zeitgeist). after 2000, and especially after Saw and Hostel, it got a lot less fun (but there are still some good ones that come along).
