Jaden McDaniels just signed a new 5 year 136m contract. 1) Makes Herbs new deal look even better than it did before, and 2) Trey is gonna cost so damned much lol. Thoughts? I for one was surprised he got 30m per but the ESPN is comparing him to Bridges before his first big contract so what do I know.

Trey Murphy is not worth 30MM a year LOL

that’s ludicrous.
he’s got interesting tools but has accomplished nothing thus far

They added cap smoothing in the new CBA which means the cap will be growing at 10% for the foreseeable future. Contract growth is capped at 8%, so as a percentage of the cap, whatever deal Trey signs will effectively be a slightly declining deal. For instance, if he signs next year starting at $30 million, that's 21.1% of a $142 million cap. In year 4, when he'd be making $37 million, that will be 19.7% of a $189 million cap.

The whole numbers are going to seem crazy, but as cap percentages it won't be as bad. I suspect that's why we see an unusually high number of midling to not even midling guys like Cole Anthony signing rookie extensions now. Teams almost always let those guys get to Free Agency because RFA rights kill the market for even good players, see Josh Hart. If teams are extending them now without letting RFA push the rates down, that must mean they think the extension is better than waiting for RFA, which just isn't how the system usually works. I'm not sure if this is a one year quirk while they figure out the new CBA, or the new normal.

Look at what Vassell and Mcdaniels just got. Trey is on par with those guys. 30MM isn't what it used to be

Yeah, when I saw McDaniel's deal, I thought of how much Trey is going to cost us. Ridiculous how good, not great players, are getting $20-$30 million.

Just look at it as a % of the cap. Trey is worth this much. The superstars will be making 50-60 per year

With the cap going up, I believe he is.

Devin Vassell just got a $30mil deal, and every podcast I listen to, the Zach Lowes and other experts think it's a fine contract due to the spike, while just looking at the raw numbers look insane.

Trey is on the same type of trajectory for a big year 3, so I don't see why he wouldn't get something similar.

$30mil is the new $20mil, and 4 years from now, it'll be more like a $15mil type deal.

If Jaylen Brown level players are max players at $60mil+ a year, Trey can get $30mil IMO.

Really shows how out of touch we are when we still think 30 mil a year is anywhere near max money.

hate to break it to you, that’s around the amount he’s getting. Depending on the year he has could be more
