Game is at 7:30pm. As well as having games Friday and Saturday night. I have season tickets and I plan on making Thursday night for sure, most likely Friday night, but will probably skip Saturday.

Any other baws going?

Yeah Zydeco isn't the best name, but at least it has some cultural significance to Louisiana. It easily could've been something worse. No matter what name that was chosen, there would've been people to not like it just because.

I may go to one at some point, but I am just not as interested as I was when the Kingfish started. The ECHL was a legit minor league. I don't see this league being as legit, and I honestly don't think this franchise will last more than 2-3 years.

I am not rooting against it...that is just my opinion. I hope it is a good experience for those who are into it.

Nothing against you at all... but I really don't care if the name is culturally significant or not. I care more that this league and this team are apparently Mickey Mouse as hell.

The players on the verge of a strike because of housing issues (they are trying to put 18 of them in the same house), and the team is actively soliciting its fan base for donations like blankets, etc. on Facebook.

Look, I get that this is the lowest level of minor league hockey... but that's pathetic. There shouldn't even be a team if it comes with that kind of baggage.

We had it so good when we had an ECHL team, and we didn't even know it. The ownership of this team is weird. On the one hand, they seem to listen to fan suggestions, on the other... their ideas about how to run things are just one lead balloon after another.

Not sure how this team will fare in BR.

Many of the home games on the hockey schedule directly conflict with LSU men's and women's basketball and LSU baseball. 2 of those 3 teams are coming off of national titles. Many people will choose that their time and money is better spent not at the River Center or will choose to watch the LSU games on TV instead of going to a hockey game.

It's almost as if interest in the hockey team and its success is hinging on LSU's failures.

Where did you hear this at? I looked on the Zydeco facebook and couldn't find anything. Is it a different team in the league doing it?

I am interested in learning more. I have some old blankets and non-perishable canned goods.

Does bringing them (for the players) get me some sort of discount like bringing a coke can to Six Flags did?

Go to the Baton Rouge Zydeco Fan Group page on Facebook... you can see people donating items to the players there and a link to the story about the housing conditions.

Don't know if this link will work... but here you go:

Speaking for myself... I am 100% all about hockey for Baton Rouge. But I just want it done right.

What I don't want is for a poorly run team/league to fail here, and then the narrative becomes "Baton Rouge doesn't like hockey."

This is the major problem with an anonymous message board.

No one is being negative or positive. Sometimes the reality of things doesn’t have to be negative or positive.

I think people’s opinions on here make them really nearsighted and anything that is different from their thinking is deemed negative.

Just had a group text with the family.

We have an older but reliable toaster, set of gently used bathroom mats, and a small unopened box of Christmas themed Tupperware that we would like to trade to the needy Zydeco players in exchange for 4 lower level seats to the opener.

BR hockey will always be doomed. I’m sure it’s not cheap for the river center to operate for a game. Also, they’re pretty much solely relying on ticket sales as there is no tv revenue that I’m aware of. Anyone that think BR could ever do hockey “right” in the long term, is not living in reality. That being said, I got Tix for Thursday night and will be there.

I didn’t realize it was this bad. This team might fold 10 games into the season. The Kingfish had a solid league. BR hockey can’t go year to year and they can’t go head to head with the bigger LSU sports.

Don’t let the naysayers rain on your parade. I don’t live in BR anymore but I actually want to go to a game. I grew up going to the Shreveport Mudbugs games and really liked them as a kid.

The problem is this league is the lowest of the low. The reincarnation of the Ice Gators in Lafayette circa 2012 was even a step higher.
