Not like here’s a drink, cheers…but in the same room or at the same wedding/party? Our son is an older Jr, but it doesn’t seem close to kosher.

I ask because it seems like my parents were cooler about us having beers at the same party as them while we were in high school. I can’t ever imagine that being the case now. Maybe the gatherings themselves have changed.

My parents were both Cajun, maybe that’s what it is. Maybe it’s just the small town we’re in and the parents of the kids he’s around. That situation, letting kids drink around adults, just seems outrageous now.

People act like society has gone to shite…but it seemed common place at a big crawfish boil or cochon de lait that kids had some Coors light or gold tops…won’t even talk about the hunting camps.

I’m not acting like the kids don’t drink…just saying it seems less relaxed than it used to.

I mean my grandparents had me drinking ponys on the boat sub 13.

We tell our 13 year old girl if she wants to try a drink we will give her one. She hints at it when we are having wine. We offer, she hasn’t accepted yet. I’d rather her know how to drink then find out with Chads date raping arse.

Dont make it a forbidden fruit brotha

Teach moderation not abstenation

And you might consider weed as well, theyll want to try it soon if they haven't already.

I think I was 18 before I had a beer in hand with my parents around. I just never tried it before that. We were always taught that drinking was fine in moderation and when driving/firearms aren't involved. My mom/dad weren't big drinkers, though. Until my little brother was out of their house I'd maybe seen my dad drink 2 or 3 beers total. He drinks 2 or 3 beers every weekend now that all of his kids are grown and out of the house.

Hell, drinking age was 18 when I grew up. Had a solid fake ID, not that I needed it, when I turned 16.

Oh they have parties…I guess we’re all in the ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ phase.

The world became more litigious. We’ve all heard the stories. Huge liability now for parents/adults letting kids drink.

As a man in recovery, I believe we should treat the consumption laws the same as Europe. Do not make it such a big deal.

That being said, young people really need to be educated on the drugs/alcohol. Not what they are called but what they will do. Give the real, raw numbers to show them how bad it is. Relapse rates Death caused by alcohol overall. Its staggering.

The most likely you are to get killed all year is the night of December 25th.

Distilled alcohol is the worst drug to hit humanity and people still turn their head the other way.

Pretty sure it is an expellable offense at my son’s school, and at the girls school next door. If someone had proof you supplied a drink for a kid who got expelled because of it…I can’t even imagine the repercussions. A lawsuit I assume.

How about, don't drink with your kids and act like drinking is ok? How about teaching them the negatives about drinking

My grandpa let me try his beer when i was five or so at a BBQ. My dad was fine with it. I hated the taste so maybe that's why he was ok with it.

I have offered my kid senior in high school a beer before they turn it down each time and look at me funny. Now I know they have tried beer at parties have seen the pictures but hopefully they just are not into like their mother and I were.

He’ll leave home, and enroll in college, right after graduation. Never really thought of it, but for some reason they want them enrolled over the summer. I knew we weren’t going on their graduation trip with him…I just assumed we’d have some time together that summer (which would be an ideal time to take him out of the country and have drinks around a pool somewhere).

Guess we’ll catch up on that trip at a later time.
