You seem quite upset by the discussion. We should gather a council, with Mother providing the hot chocolate and chocolate chip cookies, where we can settle this matter once and for all.

I’ll be over in a minute. Mother knows how to settle my nerves. A good old fashioned will do the trick.

Any idea how old Bucktown is? I live between vets and west esp near Bonnabel and these homes are early to mid 60’s.

By weird kinky stuff, do you mean possible attempted rape and stuff like that?

Friend,

I believe some of his enemies on Facebook made allegations that involved dogs. After he was murdered, some of his neighbors gathered and drank champagne on his lawn. People can be a very cruel lot.

Is the breeze out of the north? If so, you’re smelling Bogalusa.

What is the section between Bonnabel and Severn north of Metairie Rd called?

Beverly Knoll

Severn is considered the Western border of Old Metry…

Marsh fires. Two separate ones. One in Lafitte and one in Bayou Sauvage. One of the fires possibly set ablaze a sizable tire stash.

Lakeside Mall is the edge of Old Metry, Macy’s if you will.
Nope

Lakeside Mall is beyond Veterans and beyond Causeway, so it fails two of the required border tests. Severn has a weak claim but only up to Vets. After that it is Fat City which Old Metairie will not claim.

I would argue that the area bordered by Bonnabel, the 17th St Canal, West Esplanade, and Veterans is a grey zone, just as the area between Causeway and Bonnabel is. Bucktown and Old Metairie can both lay claim to this area, as it is not within either neighborhood's historic borders.
Friend,

I thought that The area between Veterans and the Lake - 17th Street Canal and Oaklawn pretty much defined Bucktown. Maybe a bit more of a westerly spur North of West Esplanade to Bonnabel could also to be included.

It is a unique place.

The rest of the area North of Veterans was considered New Metairie.

While considering this, I would be open to extending Old Metairie’s southern border from Airline to the railroad track just south of Airline. I believe historically that these few homes fit better with Old Metairie than Shrewbury or Old Jefferson. As always, if you can provide a good reason why they should not be in Old Metairie I am always open to a good argument.
Absolutely not!

Wasn't that the old Cold Storage Road area?

That is where they tossed the dead bodies that they wanted found because they did not want them found in Metairie.

Airline is a hard border. And that far is mostly because JS had his super grocery over there. :)

It is well accepted that Old Metairie is simply I-10 to Airline and the parish line to Causeway. The area between I-10 and Veterans is simply pimped out by realtors and contractors as Old Metairie so they can upcharge 100k.

Please refer to property values to back this up.

The area near Nor Joes and Radostas is grandfathered in, despite property values. This area gives a sense of place, history, and a mild Jefferson Parish gritiness.

Friend,

This 1935 map of the Metairie Ridge appears to show Shrewsbury's northern border as the railroad that runs on the southern edge of the contemporary road known as Airline Highway.

This map could also be used to argue for the Old Metairie inclusion of many of the parts of the area today known as Whitney Heights, between Causeway and Bonnabel.

Friend,

It is not realtors who made up the borders of Old Metairie. Old Metairie has always extended quite a bit north, due to an elevated spur in the old natural levee along Bayou Metairie which reached north of current day Veterans. The first map of a plotted Old Metairie comes from 1924 and shows that the neighborhood extends even north of West Esplanade.

This 1940 map also shows the northern spur of Old Metairie extending well north of what many people in Old Metairie want you to believe.
