I’ll start by apologizing because I just did a thread asking for where to get the best roast beef poboy in NOLA not long ago. I promise this will be my last question about “where to get food in NOLA” for a while.

My friends that are coming to NOLA with us for the first time asked that we go somewhere to get a muffuletta. I am actually not a huge fan (it’s an olive thing for me) so I’m not sure where to bring them.

Central Grocery?

TIA.

Central Grocery is not open. They do sell their sandwiches at some grocery stores.

My personal favorite is R&O's. The olive salad has a little kick to it.

Friend,

Friend,

10. Napoleon House - the only heated muffuletta in the top 10.
9. Martin's Deli & Bistro
8. Come Back Inn (request cold)
7. Lovecchio's (long trip to Norco, but it's the best sandwich within 20 miles)
6. Frank's (not the original, but is delicious)
5. World Deli (request cold)
4. Nor Joe's (good, but isn't as great as most Old Metairites say)
3. Gendusa's (request cold)
2. DiMartino's (delivered by family)
1. Central Grocery (the ones being made under that name are not nearly as good as the ones from the actual grocery which is soon to open)

Yours,
TulaneLSU

There’s no real secret to a good muffuletta. Get Central Grocery olive mix, a loaf from Gendusa’s Bakery, which were $2 each, and good deli meats. Let them sit together for a few hours and serve at room temperature. I would not put R&O’s roast beef poorboy in my top ten nor its muffuletta anywhere near my top ten. Decent fried seafood and good shrimp salad, though.

For my money:
DiMartino's
R&O's
Gendusa's
Napoleon House
Butcher

No particular order.

Also, frick a cold muffuletta, and frick TulaneLSU's opinions of R&O's as well.

Not sure if the best, but Arabi Food Store will kill it for a hot muff.

A good friend of mine just opened up in St. Roch Market. Nuccio's. He and his wife run it. They serve a muff. I've never had it, but I've eaten their food many times and never been disappointed. They make their own olive salad, which is really good. Just my .02

Central Grocery

Others are good but I think this one is still the best. No way they are open again, their building is wrecked and they are fighting with insurance about it. But they still make sandwiches and sell em at the liquor store next door.

I know everyone's taste is different, but I think the muffuletta from Central Grocery is the worst one I've ever had. Not to mention the service there is absolutely horrible!

Lovecchio's Deli in Norco used to have the best muffuletta ever but it's been about 4 years since I have been over that way.

Come Back Inn in Kennetairie.

Order it warm, olive salad on the side cold. Scoop on as little as much as you want. 10/10.
