I honestly think the Israeli gov./military knew what was planned and going to happen and they let it happen, so all retaliation would be backed by the West.

If thats not true I need to understand how this attack slipped under Israeli intelligence agencies...

“Sure, we shot rockets over the border, murdered a bunch of people, including young children and babies. Raped a bunch of women all in an unprovoked attack. Yeah, we did all that. But we can’t be held responsible because the Israelis should’ve known about it and stopped us from our murderous and rapish ways beforehand!”

Has something to do with going into an election year. Just wait until we get deeper into 2024.

It didn't, but that doesn't mean they "let it happen". Like with 9/11, they knew "something" was going to happen but didn't know when, where, what, or how. "Something is going to happen" has been the case in Israel for 70 years.

Hammas is clearly going around electronic surveillance, as Israel has the strongest surveillance program in the world.

I've given a bit of thought to the "they let it happen" angle, and I don't believe it holds water.

I think it was more of a disjointed government with the leaders being distracted issue. I do believe Egypt when they say that they passed along the threat to the Israelis, but how many threats are passed along or discovered in a given time in that part of the world?

Bibi didn't do himself any favors with his, "The divisions that existed within the Israeli government before are no more." comments, though. It opened wider the door to conspiracy theories. I just don't see him weighing the pros and cons, knowing he is a divisive figure at the moment, knowing an attack would weaken his position at this time, and then wholesale allowing it to happen.

I pondered the possibility that they knew "something" was going to happen and they let it, only to have the snowball effect take over and that "something" turned into an attack on a level they could have never perceived. You have to believe that pretty much the entirety of the Israeli intelligence apparatus was in on the plan, along with the political shot callers. I just don't see it with how this has played out. Too many careers are very likely ruined because of this.

I also believe that we, as a country, are currently in a very similar position as Israel was prior to that attack. We are weakened by our own political shitshow with too many illegitimate concerns taking up too much time and too many resources. Someone is going to take advantage of our current state.

Exactly this and I believe Israel talked up their intelligence capabilities and clearly they weren't as great as advertised. But...I wouldn't be surprised if they really did allow the attack but we'll never know.
