when I was growing up, my dad was a middle school teacher. At the end of the school year he'd bring some shite home that kids left behind. One particular year when I was 10-12 years old, he brought home a binder of CDs. At the time I didn't know shite about music other than what my folks played on the radio.
One of the CDs was the album, "Core". I listened to it nonstop and it instantly became one of my favorites from my pre-teen years.
Fast forward to today...I probably haven't listened to it in 20+ years and decided to load it up on Apple Music. Every fricking song is excellent. One after another.

“Crackerman” is an all time banger of a show opener.

My dad was a high school teacher and I found a lot of music the same way. Crazy you said yhis because Stone Temple Pilots was a specific one. There was a 3 song CD someone left that was just the singles from Core. Also found Bush, Candlebox, and various others that way.

I saw the video for Sex Type Thing before this album came out and liked it. I tried to buy the cd the first day it came out but no one had it. Then when the video for Plush came out the cd was everywhere and I could finally buy it. STP are one of those bands I got into early on before they really blew up.

Guessing he kept any… literature… left behind by his students, eh?

Great album. STP I always thought were more of the underrated bands compared to others during their time.

STP was the equivalent of any of the alternative bands of that era. Talented dudes.

With writers like the Deleo brothers and a frontman in Weiland they could never be seen as underrated. Being in HS during their prime, they were as big as anyone.

Plush might be the greatest song written in the 90's
It jams in the full electric version and holds up just as well acoustically

I don’t have the links, but I was on YouTube recently and found that they played both Core and Purple start to finish in a studio in 2020 with the new singer. Both recordings are soooooo good. Even some tidbits between songs about how they were written, etc.

Core is timeless to me and I listen to songs from it all the time. Naked Sunday hits so hard among others.
I always envision that the first 6 tracks reflect a crazy night out leading to hangover and regret in Creep.
The Super Deluxe Edition is really good too.

Well said.
Underrated song. It is a killer album all the way through.
The closer off of purple is underrated as well.

Yeah I heard Only Dying last month for the first time and loved it. It was supposed to be on The Crow soundtrack but got pulled for the title of it.

Did not know that.
Listening now, Scott’s voice sounds different or maybe it’s the mixing/processing?
Another good hidden gem is Interstate Love Song Acoustic version, slowed down and sounds tortured.
Definitely a Sunday morning hangover feel.

Saw STP in Atlanta years back on their last tour. The show was delayed about 30mins. SW was the reason for that...he was so fricked up and I"m not sure how he finished the show. When it was over, he turned to leave stage, he face planted and the band had to pick him up and drag him off stage.
But I love that album...remember hearing them on radio for first time in early 90's thinking they were Pearl Jam at first because I was so desperate for another PJ record.
