haven't seen it mentioned and know he didn't record great numbers this week, but he was getting in the backfield a lot and it looks like he's getting in shape.

He will, injured last year and this is his first year of playing every down at this level so he is learning and improving his techniques as the season moves forward. As we get into the backend of the season and teams start getting tired we will see how this line plays down the stretch.

Yeah I will definitely step forward as one of his harshest critics earlier in the year to say that he is much better when attacking than read and react. I still wouldn’t say he’s as dominant as we were told he would be but hes definitely a solid player now.

The media hyped this guy up so much. Way overrated.

I'm very curious what decision he will make at the end of the year.

I can't see him going top 2-3 rounds at the moment...

Same. He may be a Malachi Dupre type that is leaving after 3 years no matter what his draft stock is.

I think he's finally shaking all the rust off and I think Pete is helping him a bit. People forget it wasn't just his knee that held him out for a season, but he was limited due to an ankle in the Summer and early in the year. I think he was rusty AND not in game cardio shape.

He was definitely pushing people backwards into the pocket this past weekend and impacting plays a lot more. Auburn OL is bad though, so we'll see.

He better have his degree if he plans on leaving.

Malachi Dupre
Dupre kind of got screwed with the QBs he had to deal with while he was at LSU. That said, he should have stayed for his final year. Looking him up, he never caught on anywhere in the NFL or CFL, yet somehow is flying around on private jets on Instagram, so I guess he's doing ok.

He needs to stay another year IMO to get a 1st/2nd round draft status.

He is improving game to game! We’re gonna need him to beat Bama, Florida and A&M

Lol lsu fans are so stupid & sheltered. Every single nfl team knows who Maason smith is. Y’all think Mike detellier is the only person that sees his upside

I find it amazing that so many fans are going with the narrative that this player and that player are improving. If this is the case we have to have about 10 explanations to explain all of this.

Smith is getting in shape
Speights is over his injury
Stupid coaches finally realized they have to play Shands and Jefferson
Zy is finally getting his technique down
Etc.

Or we can go with a different narrative that only requires one explanation: They finally settled on a defense and caught everyone up on their responsibilities, so the team is now playing fast and loose. This narrative has two virtues that the other doesn't. First, it is simple, and second, it is what the coach is telling us is true.

That's so obviously a better answer that there is a term for it - Occam's Razor.

For the first 3 seconds of every play he's improved. After that, he still looks stiff. To say he gives up on some plays to early is an understatement.

No he wasn't.
He suffered from a lack of coaching talent.
He started playing better as soon a Jenkins was hired to teach DL technique.
