Can a single leftist explain how multiculturalism is supposed to work?

I have never understood this concept. Is there a single example in recorded human civilization of a nation having multiple cultures, and not one dominant culture? (This is not to confuse with countries having smaller subcultures)
What is the explanation for why native citizens would want "multiculturalism" and what are the benefits it provides?
From my perspective, there will always be one dominant culture that wins out and will seek to dominate that culture. The current zeitgeist in America seems to be pushing a very gay, neo-liberal, marxist global culture that despises the traditional American Christian heritage. But there is no way for both of these cultures to coexist with eachother.
What is the explanation for why native citizens would want "multiculturalism" and what are the benefits it provides?

Well, take India. They have a large Sikh population. But the Indians don't appreciate their cultural enrichment so a lot of Sikhs moved to Canada where they make their enrichment plans in peace.

Marxism is just the tool. No country has never really been truly Marxist or Communist. Its more of an idealogy that elites prescribe to the useful idiots to ultimately support the neo-liberal global order.
An example of this is CRT (which is a Marxist theory) being implemented by massive global corporations, who push this idealogy (which you would think would be antithesis to their vision), but do it to further take power.

It doesn’t work. It’s built on unicorn farts and rainbows. It is ingrained in us to congregate with, associate with and protect those who have similar characteristics and values. It is nature and it is their naïveté and outright stupidity that will tear our society apart.

In fact, it’s perfectly possible for peoples from different culture to co-exist in a country. In fact, that’s been the case in the U. S.since the 18th Century.

Yeah, the Canadians are having no problems with them. But the Indians are. They claim Sikh separatist groups in Canada plot terror attacks in India and so India is pissed at Canada for harboring them.
Odd fact...Almost all male Sikhs have 'Sikh' as their first or middle name. It's kinda like all the Muslims named Mohammed.

Multiculturalism HAS worked. America at its strongest has featured a conglomeration of diverse perspectives from across Europe. Diversity doesn’t just mean skin color. Ethnicity, religious views, family structures - you can have multiculturalism in a number of different ways.
Outside of Europe, you’ve had tremendous additions to American culture via what black people have offered along with Asians. Asians (notably from Japan, Korea, and India) have been instrumental in medicine, science research, and technology.
Black people have enriched our music and cuisine. Their Christian practices have invigorated what it means to be a charismatic Protestant.
These are just a few examples of how multiculturalism can enhance a society.
The problems associated with multiculturalism come in two areas: ethnocentric attitudes and a progressive, radical Left that utilizes Marxist ideology.
For the Left, multiculturalism isn’t a strength but a technique for identifying existing power structures to be deconstructed. This is why the radical Left doesn’t actually celebrate diversity: they simple use it to destroy “colonial Whiteness.” They use it to argue that systemic oppression exists and is the reason for the hardships that minorities experience.
Does racism exist? Sure. It’s also a problem when trying to cultivate a multicultural society. But, at least for me, multiculturalism isn’t a bad word. It’s actually been a strength, but it’s also been abused by people with particular agendas.
