Which would lend some credence if they casted those actors/actresses for DEI sake. It’s less that and more almost all of them have starred in other Mike Flanagan productions. It’s like the Judd Apatow Troupe for Horror.

I miss the old days on this board when they would hide behind "We just want the best actors to get the roles and stories that work".

Now it's just straight up "OMG why did they have to cast a *insert race here* in this show/movie??? Why is there a mixed couple??? Why is there a gay character at all????? ITS OBVIOUSLY DEI LIB bullshite!!!"

Agreed this board is over run with that shite. My one complaint i wish they could of just called it the fall of house Sackler.

Other than that this show was excellent. Easily my favorite from Flannagan his others took me a few episodes to get into it but this one pulled me in a lot faster and was consistently great the whole way through.

took it that Roderick was trying to spread his bloodline as much as he could through many different women to try and beat the curse till he got too old to cock sling anymore and settled down with the little weirdo

I don’t think they believed the curse. They were fricked up and didn’t believe in curses.

I couldn’t figure out if Verna was death, the devil, a demon, karma, etc. I was leaning toward something evil until she showed mercy to the bartenders, Morella, and Lenore. Verna even seemed protective of Morella, not only by warning her, but by making Frederick’s death extra gruesome because he hurt her

All I know is Verna is an anagram for Raven. The raven in Poe's poem is also a mystery. Is it real, supernatural, imaginary???

You people saying this shite is a masterpiece are funny. “I want you to imagine your hands around the perfect cock.” Wow what great writing GTFO I’m an episode and a half In but the acting and writing are shitty af except for about 4 people. I’ll try to finish episode 2 tomorrow and see if it gets any better.

Frank Langella was originally cast as the family patriarch. He got kicked off the project for sexually harassing one of the actresses.

The family patriarch is one of the good Parts. Roderick and his sister are good, hamill is good, and the grand daughter is likeable but all of the children except one (the white haired girl) are awful actors, and the writing is atrocious. They’re fricking caricatures of the kardashians.

I'm not a fan of the "anti-consumerism" rant that Madeline went off on at the close

Same. It just seemed kind of counterintuitive to what Flanagan was trying to do? Either way, it was just way too preachy.

I think her making Roderick see all the people he’s killed as the rain falling down in the final episode kind of sealed the deal as her being Death. Verna didn’t seem like someone interested in “souls” just bodies and she could obviously see Roderick was going to give her a top 5 count and did. It seemed heavy handed and pointed in a way that Flanagan wanted you to think she was Death, maybe tinged with some karma.

Because she also seemed proud of Lenore and her mom saving millions of lives too, something other entities wouldn’t give a shite about. Same with how she killed Freddie. It was pointed in making him REALLY suffer.

I just don’t see how you guys are making it through this dialogue,
Here’s a gem I remember:
“I can’t Wait to tell daddy on you” in the most nasally feminine voice imaginable while wearing a fricking man bun. In an office. Then There’s the fact every last one of them is bisexual. Not that I care if there’s a gay or bisexual character in a film or show but throwing them in there just for the sake of it is a little irritating, just too much. Another gem I remembered is when Madeline randomly starts talking about the hook that Egyptians used to rip the brains out for mummification to the grand daughter. Just felt like a show made for high school emo kids who all think they’re trans or bi or something else and are also big fans of EAP and they are very deep.

ALLEGEDLY.

The initial reports I read were absolute bullzhit, but the Mob had to have blood, so he was gone.

Bumping this because I just finished it. I love Poe so I'm biased, but this is my favorite Mike Flanagan series I think. Though I do love Midnight Mass and Hill House. Bly to me is clearly the step-child.

They weren't all bisexual, but they all did have their hangups and quirks for sure and I think it was at least partially to be this stories version of the incestuous overtones in the Poe story.

If you look at modern celebs and their predilections, it's probably not far off base from the uber-wealthy's appetites. Look no further than the names alleged to be on Epstein's flight manifests down to his Island.

As another poster pointed out Verna is an anagram for Raven. At first I thought she might be a demon because of the deal she made with Roderick and Madeline, but she didn't ask for their souls in return. Her terms were very clear in that the family line would die when they die. I still feel she's supposed to represent death or, as you suggested, maybe karma or fate. The only thing that threw me is that Pym saw her in her true form in the Arctic when he was a young man. She said she saw him too, but they never said what exactly it was that he saw.
