don't care about 1400 keyboard typers, I care about what Donald Trump said from his own mouth which was "WE WERE ON THE ROAD TO ENERGY INDEPENDENCE....." If I have to define what "on the road" is then you're dumber than Power-bottom, which is a feat in and of itself
Talk about putting your foot in your own mouth.

Today, I am going to ask NATO to become much more involved in the Middle East process. Over the last three years, under my leadership, our economy is stronger than ever before and America has achieved energy independence. These historic accompliments [accomplishments] changed our strategic priorities. These are accomplishments that nobody thought were possible.
Texas Standard response to trump claim
Why do people feel the need to constantly lie to defend politicians?

Let me slow it down for you and re-state it so that you can gnaw on that bone: We need to re-fill our emergency reserves because the US is not a net crude oil exporter
Tits on a boar hog for a decade SPR? How do you get that oil from those sites to refineries around the USA? No crude oil pipelines lead inland from them. Heck none lead to Corpus Christi or West Texas even. None lead to OK, AR, NE LA, Pascagoula, are anywhere north.

I mean we still are “on the road” to energy independence and we are closer than ever.
Do you honestly believe shutting down transportation pipelines with executive orders on day 1 in office is putting us on a road to energy independence? Do you honestly believe that forcing Big Oil c-suite officers onto Capitol Hearing threatening them with price gouging and criminal behavior is putting us on a road to energy independence? Were you asleep in 2021/2022? How about raiding the SPR and not re-filling it? How about ANWR, gas leases, dirty oil imports from South America?

I believe we produce more energy domestically than ever before in our country’s history with much much more coming online every day.
You don’t have to believe it if you don’t feel like it. But facts do not care about your feelings.

The OP article explicitly states the US is a net crude oil importer. I understand your beliefs, but I hope you understand that I'll take the word of a published article over a Tigerdroppings poster's Wednesday morning beliefs.

He is right that we are producing all time high levels. You understand that producing at an all time high does not remove the need to import due to logistics right?
Posted on 10/11/23 at 10:31 am to Tomatocantender
You must not understand how to read because no one in this thread or in the article alleged that being a net crude oil importer and producing more energy domestically than ever were mutually exclusive.
Posted on 10/11/23 at 10:55 am to JohnnyKilroy
Yep. We are producing more, importing about the same amount, and exporting more.

The fact is that the US produces more oil than it uses in a day. That is indisputable.
We will not ever likely get to a point of energy independence though. We’d need more refineries for that and that ain’t happening.
Also, oil is produced by private/public companies and not the government. No one can tell chevron that they can’t sell their US produced oil to Europe, or China, or Japan…
So the whole “energy independence” thing is a misnomer. It means nothing

Yeah. If we ramp up production in the gulf of Mexico/bordering states it doesn't mean a refinery in Alaska is gonna stop importing crude from Canada that is closer/cheaper

We are a net exporter of refined products which fall into the fuels category, thus energy.
Hawaii will be a crude oil importer as long as any refineries there. It's cheaper to buy sweet crude from the Middle East and Alaskan crude isn't sweet, plus US flagged tankers cost a lot more.
On a side note, Hawaii has right of first refusal on releases from the SPR but US flagged tankers going through the Panama Canal cost way more the tankers/crude from the Middle East.

These two are not the same.
Saying it isn't profitable to build a new refinery that processes light crudes is not saying light crudes can't be profitable for an exitsting refinery.

Its great you found a website (funded by oil companies) to blame politics, but that skips over the fact they didn't build refineries that process the lighter stuff anytime in the past 40 years before Biden was in office?
Why would companies build plants for products the government says will be phased out very soon? Broaden your perspective.

Seems like we are producing a ton of oil and natural gas, when will this happen?

Does it though? Now step out of your box and view oil as a futures commodity traded on the world stage. Think about futures contracts and the types of messages/market signals that drive it. Does shutting down logistical transportation pipelines lay out a positive or negative message?

Thanks for that wisdom. None of us have ever thought of it like that.

Not approving Keystone and other pipelines was stupid. And I don't think any of us are fans of Bidens energy policies and the stupidity of them.

We're making headway. Several months ago you were singing a different tune, completely ignoring his antics on O&G in 2021 and early 2022 when gas prices were spiking and Potato and Granholm's only answer was a dog n pony show on Capitol Hill.

The Potato man literally said fossil fuels will only be used for another 10 years, tops, in his SOTU address. I guess you missed that. So basically you don't need Tigerdroppings to tell you that, you just need to maybe watch a presidential speech from time to time and get clued in. Just a thought.
