Erlich smacking the frick out of that kid is still one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen on television

One of my favorite scenes is them hitting the deer from Stanford robotics.

The logo

The logo chuy painted on the garage was great too. Can’t even post it here for being too vulgar

Erlich was a terrible character by the end of his time on the show, to be honest. He was great the first 2-3 seasons, but they definitely ran out of stuff to do with him. This

They also never did anything with Amanda Crew. It’s like she was put on the show as eye candy surrounded by nerds, but they never developed anything with her. On BBT, Kaley Cuoco became a major character. Amanda was a nothing on the show

if they really wanted to keep it going, the thing to do would have been to let the company make it and have Richard slowly turn into Gavin over time (IMHO). Transition from startup to actually becoming a real company. But it would be hard to pull off.

That would have been good, but like you said, hard. I think part of that is Middleditch. His character was easily my least favorite character on the show, and I put part of that on Middleditch. Maybe that's just me. There's just something about him that I don't like, and I don't think he could have pulled off the move to Gavin and been believable in that role.

Still a great show. Yeah, the plot was a repeat every season, but it gave us some amazing comedic moments.

Too bad about Christopher Evan Welch. Peter was a great character, and I never really got behind the Lauri Bream character.

I'm bumping this because of OP and I did a full rewatch.

The show is funny AF. The narrative of almost great success and then epic failure then hope of great success then epic failure is easily the story arc.

Intertwined is really great characters and their struggles - both good and bad. That's what the show is about really.

Richard is a kiss my piss moron in so many ways and Errich - (Jian-Yang lol) is bringing shite to a piss fight.

Jared has some of best one-off lines throughout that tells his backstory that I find very hilarious - and easily disturbing.

This show isn't an underachieving mediocre show at all. IMO.

I rewatch randomly the scene where guilfoyles computer constantly plays very loud death metal in the office when Bitcoin fluctuates prices for him to buy and it keeps scaring Richard and its so damn funny

It was genius for a few seasons. Went limp toward the end. But when it was good it was great. Gilfoyle was one of the greatest characters ever. Very funny but not a comedy sketch stereotype character.

Yeah, it’s formulaic on HBO where you can literally do anything.

Is there really nobody in Hollywood that could write a comedy based on Silicon Valley? Really? Without resorting to the exact same formula each season?

You could argue it was the Tech version of The League. So?

Maybe that's what they wanted to be? A small ensemble sitcom of goofs that have some success but revel in failure. Funny shows have been a hit with less like The IT Crowd.

I mean, it's Mike Judge...

Just because it's HBO and not CBS doesn't mean they have to always be above using familiar sitcom plots and try, try again themes, like the quirky losers who repeatedly just can't succeed...ala Basil Fawlty. The formula, like a lot of sitcoms in history, is the show.

They recovered from that. Suzanne Cryer was great as Laurie.

She did not do anything for me. Needs at least 15 more pounds on her.

Martin Starr is a comedic genius.

Since I’m very close to my rewatch, he actually has one of the easiest roles on the show. He pulls it off perfectly, but it’s the stoic anti-hero that saves the day over and over.

I think, again, imo, everyone pulls off their character in a great way. I think that was Judge was doing with the show. Someone earlier said it lost it judgeness, but he directed many of season 5-6.

It’s hard to sustain the cohesion of a long running show.
