He's a shite OC.

He sat and watched Payton call his plays and now he's trying to copy what Payton did.

Winston, Dalton, Carr, Hill, there's no excuse that one of the 4 could not be a serviceable qb with the weapons around them.

Play calling is arse and so is Carmichael

If Carmichael was such a genius OC why did he never get one serious head coaching interview his entire tenure under Payton?

Listen, Pete...nothing personal dude! You just suck as an play-caller! Maybe you should get Gail Benson to let you run the concession stands.

Greatest coach on Earth cant turn Carr into a winner.

He sucks.

When the QB sucks, nothing else matters.

Prepare your paper bags.

He's been here 100 years and has rarely had to call plays.

There is thinking fast and thinking slow. PC seems to be a thinking slow guy. Great at big picture strategy like breaking down opponents, creating the gameplan, installing certain plays, etc.

He's just not a "thinking fast" guy who can process information that quickly on gameday when playcalling. That's why our offense looks so much better and complex early (when we're running scripted plays) than later (when PC has to set things up on the fly in real time at 100 mph).

Agree, but also, i wouldnt forget that the guy thats his boss wants a certain conservative style offense to play complimentary to his defense. I think that plays a part. Still want all of them gone, but yeah, if they struggle this week, Pete needs to give up playcalling

calling plays is about 10% of what a coordinator needs to do to be good.

The play sheet itself is a huge part of it.

I don't think we are fooling too many defenses.

I think the goal of our offense seems to be to get to 3rd and short.

Carmichael isn't capable of solving those problems.

All I know is he looks lost on game days and we are last in points scored.

Players are significantly better (on paper) than last season… results have been similar… offense has arguably regressed

The problem is that since we've continued to just keep the Payton era coaching train going, and since SP called plays exclusively, we have NOBODY who has playcalling experience and I don't think anyone who has any real experience outside of this system (to bring in new ideas).

It sucks, but this is probably something that is an offseason issue and not an inseason issue.

Just like a guy who can throw the ball really well doesn't always make a great QB, a guy who can design great plays or even script a great game plan doesn't always make a great play caller when the game goes off script, which it almost invariably does, often after the first series or two.

Pete does not have the feel to be a good play-caller in this league. Payton would use his script to set up plays and learn the defense tendencies. When a D played against Payton, they were always on their heels. Pete gives you none of that. If anything, his play calls are predictable and he does not seem to adjust to what the D is doing.

He may be great at setting up a game plan, but he is not a good gameday playcaller.

I remember watching a video of Brees, Payton and Carmichael game planning in a conference room. Carmichael didn't say one word about what plays they were going to install. He sucks as an OC.

How's the offense looked with him "calling plays" without Payton?
