The news we’ve been waiting for.
Amy Atmore seems to be heading up the medical staff now, and Nelson has moved into an advisory role.

Very odd that Nelson is still on staff after a major demotion.

Maybe he likes it here and didn’t want to leave so they moved him to another role?

If this is Am Atmore she's kinda hot. LINK /
Pretty sure that's her. She used to work for the Suns and has done work with Russell Wilson. She's cute.

Hmmm. Not that much info out there. I don’t think she’s ever head up a staff (twss)

Looks like she used to be Russell Wilson’s personal PT. For what it’s worth, Wilson has been an absolute iron man in the NFL.
Also, I don’t think she is head of the training staff. That title has been VP, PLAYER CARE & PERFORMANCE. She is Director of Rehabilitation.

Atmore enters her first season with the Pelicans as the Director of Rehabilitation. In her role, Atmore is responsible for developing player rehabilitation programs focused on physical therapy, injury prevention and rehabilitative care. Atmore joins New Orleans after spending the past three years in the private sector as a full time Physical Therapist and Director of Performance for one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL. Prior to this role, she served as the Performance Therapist for the Phoenix Suns during their 2019-2020 season. From 2011-2019, Atmore practiced in the rehabilitation setting treating high school, collegiate and professional athletes following acute and post-operative injuries. She was integral in developing sport specific return to play programs following concussion and ACL repair. Atmore holds a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of Southern California and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.

Risky hire to say the least.
Hopefully they are thinking outside the box.

Is it? She doesn't need to go head to head with the other team's trainer each night, she just needs to know what therapy/treatment to use on players and she needs to have the bedside manner to get the players to comply.
She's got all of the academic credentials you could want other than maybe being a medical doctor. She's also younger which hopefully means she can connect with the players, although I'm starting to be anti-load management with the results we're seeing, so I hope she's not too new school.

Yes?
She’s worked 1 year as part of a staff at the pro level.
Since then she worked for Russel Wilson personally and he’s a robot.
Working with a whole staff and an entire team is an entirely different animal.
I’m sure she’s very good. I’m not poopooing the hire.
It is risky though. But we already went with quite possibly the best, most experienced of all time and that failed miserably.

How do you get Zion to go to rehab? Hire an attractive female. Well done Griffin.

If he quits he doesn't get to keep the money. They also are bringing in someone pretty inexperienced, so maybe Nelson will take care of the management side of things while mentoring Atmore. So the Pels might not have wanted him to quit as much as get out of Zion's line of sight.

“I don’t know that philosophically we have made radical changes as much as we have addressed specific needs players have had," Griffin said. "We have hired a physical therapist in our organization for the first time. It’s not something that historically has been part of the model, I suppose. But in many cases, the same staff is there. The people that were hired are by and large still part of the process. We are still trying to to respond to player needs and to be attentive to those changes what they need to be.

This statement is mind boggling to me. How can this team not have had a physical therapist on staff?

Agreed. It is mind boggling for a company in the high risk for injury business, and worth north of a billion dollars to just be getting up to speed with this. This isn’t 1970s ABA.

It’s probably something they third partied with doctors that performed surgeries.

This is what would worry me.. Her resume is basically keeping Wilson healthy, and he takes great care of himself
We'll see how she handles a team full of guys living off of Cheetohs and instagram thots

I think our initial reaction was a little bit of a mischaracterization for Atmore's role. She is not the "head of the medical staff", she is the Director of Rehabilitation, which appears to be a new position. It looks like Nelson was moved out of sight and they added a physical therapist rather than she is Nelson's replacement.
One thing that is odd, on the Pels staff listings they have her listed under Basketball Operations rather than Athletic Training. ie She probably reports to Griff, Trajan or Swin rather than Nelson or head trainer Tom Maystadt. I don't know if that's a website mistake, or if it's to give her autonomy to go against the training staff.

Players are raving about her in their media day interviews. Looks like she's gonna be a good hire.
