Aranda always loved to run a 3-4 defense, but when he got to LSU he realized the players LSU had were best in a 4-3 defense. So he ran 4-3 until he had the players to run 3-4.

House loves to run zone coverage, but the best corners at LSU right now are press man corners. So he continues to force his zone scheme onto the best corners who haven’t fully learned zone or play the ones who aren’t the most talented corners on the team.

If it isn’t working, try something else. Put Denver Harris and Welch in press man where they play best, because what you’re doing is not working!

Aranda is a LB guru. I’d love to see what he would do with Perkins and Weeks.

Injuries are part of the game. Don’t forget that we have injuries on starters. D-line, LB, and DB. A bunch of new players. For the record there have been plenty of personnel moves. Harris, Weeks, Jefferson, Womack, should get 2 starters back in the mix this weeks.

If House doesn’t make an improvement, then BK needs to find someone else. I know we don’t have the elite talent we use to have but it’s a schematic issue.

Arkansas offensive coaches figured out House’s simple game plan and attacked it all night long with no adjustments on his part. And this is all so strange because last year he made plenty of adjustments throughout games. I wonder what has changed.

The busted coverages against Arky were on the safeties and possibly 1 on a backer. The corners play man during the game and zone. Aranda did the same thing. Almost every d coordinator in the country plays man and zone. The issue with our defense isn’t the scheme. It’s that’s modern college football defenses have to be immensely complex to keep up with modern offenses where all the rules benefit the offense. Zone coverages are not like they were 15/20 years ago. They are pattern matching coverages. Just cover 4 has like 10 variations now. It’s going to take time to have new guys coming into the fold since Brooks absence to figure it all out. House has proven he will make the necessary changes and coaching points to get the defense where it needs to be.

Perkins and Wingo are elite and Harris has the potential to be. Speights was elite before coming here.

Ehh. Aranda got here and switched to a 3-4. May have shown some 4 man looks, but the base was 3-4. To your point, I thought it was a questionable move because our DL at the time didn't match a 3-4.

Agree with your overall sentiment though.

If Aranda is let go before end of the season, get your NIL money folks to sign him immediately. Even match his current salary. The change in the "perceived" (using this word only because the coaches see things differently) weakness in present defensive recruits will also massively improve.

Most of the players in the secondary. With Brooks out, Ryan and Burns are the only guys with returning game experience back there. And they aren’t that good.

Last’s year’s core of JBC, Gardner, Brooks and Foucha picked up the scheme a lot faster. Once they did, the defense was effective against most of the teams we played until the wore down at the end of the season.

This year’s secondary hasn’t moved as fast, but they also aren’t as experienced as last year’s group was. That’s a huge difference.

I believe Aranda is a better DC than House, and I would love to have him back, but its not like Aranda didn't have his moments adjusting in 2019. We were in a shoot out against Florida and Texas and were deep into October until that defense came around.

Even going back to 2018, we lost 4th quarter leads to both Florida and A&M.

House hasn't had secondary like Stingley, Greedy Williams, Grant Delpit and Fulton to work with either year he's been here. So yeah lets fire him for not getting the same results

Aranda's D was actually a 1-gap 3-4. So it really played like a 4-3 with one LB adding in every play.

Agreed on both points. Failed to adjust to Mississippi State’s (somewhat understandable) and Troy’s (unacceptable) running games.

Also not having Stingley back off Smith up 2 scores with under 2min at Bama.

Don't we do the next man up thing?

Id rather get beat man to man than constantly watching recievers catch balls in wide open areas of the field because we dont know where we need to be

The corners at LSU are second string corners. That’s the problem, and I’m hoping that’s the reason we play so much zone.

There’s no such thing as a LB guru.

Aranda coached LBs but his artistry was his ability to coordinate the entire defense and keep fooling offenses.
