I don't understand. If you look at the three plays and three timeouts called before the FG, what, specifically, should he have done differently?

Had a first down with under 2 minutes. Arkansas had zero time outs left.

Take a knee on first down, let 40 seconds run off the clock. Take a knee on second down, let 40 seconds run off the clock. Take a knee on third down, call a time out with 2 seconds left in the game.

Arkansas now has a ZERO chance of a fluke play, because you didn't give them the ball.

1st down - center the ball for the kicker
2nd and 3rd down - take a knee and call timeout with 3 seconds left.
4th down - kick the FG as clock expires. No kickoff, game over.

I could even forgive him for leaving time on the clock if he wanted to kick on 3rd down in case of a bad snap. I wouldn't agree with it, but I could at least wrap my head around the logic.

But what we did instead was waste a final timeout on 3rd down, and had to throw a pass OOB to burn time off the clock instead of kneeling it because we didn't have any timeouts left, and the ball was spotted at the left hash mark on 4th down for the kicker (the worst spot imaginable), with time left so we had to kickoff to Arkansas after the fact.

I just don't see how anyone can look at that sequence of events and go "yeah that's all reasonable".

Are you in high school? You just start following football?

The issue is pretty clear. We had a 1st and goal with 2 timeouts and the ability if played correctly to run every last second out and then kick a fg.

1st down play call and our second time out of the half was used fine. The issue was the 2nd down play should have been a run or kneel to get in the middle of the field, then line up and on 3rd down kneel, then with 2 or 3 seconds left call a time out and kick the field goal win the game with Arkansas having a 0.0 chance of winning.

Instead we used a time out after second down, then had to throw a pass on 3rd down which meant we left our kicker a poor angle and we failed to run the clock down enough. This allowed a kick off which our special teams has been special needs and allowed them to throw a Hail Mary. This could have resulted in a pi or arky breaking free and winning.

It was a completely avoidable issue that our 10M dollar 30 year coach fricked up.

The other issue is for sustainability you need a good process which doesn’t focus on outcome. The same shut Saban and Kirby preach.

What I don't understand is how some people don't see that there was a much better and safer option than what he did.

I haven't coached a day in my life and I know what to do there. This guy gets paid 10 million and didn't do the most obvious thing to do right there.

1. Not call the last time out after second down. Run right up the middle in theirs down. If we don’t get TD, call the final time out of 4th down with 2 seconds left. Kick FG as time expires.

Or

Save the time out and kick the FG on throws down so if there is a ba d snap or penalty, we can call the last TO and reckick as time expires.

There were multiple ways to handle it and BK chose the worst way.

We had four downs and called our last timeout before third down.

Sequence starting at 1st down is:
Run Play
2nd Time out to tell JD Run Plays snapped at 2 on PClock, I’ll call the timeout before 4th down kick. Do NOT Score.
Run Play
Run Play
Final TO with 2-4 sec left
FG
