I know he wants to play QB and would be perfect for our system, but does anyone else think that hes going to be playing receiver for his first few years? If so it could make the loss of RR not so devastating.

IF Shep did play receiver, they would be completely different types of receivers.

I think he'll be used like John Chiles has been used at Texas. He'll see 6-8 snaps a game at QB, and probably at least a couple snaps a game at WR simply as a wrinkle.

If Randle goes elsewhere, the guy lessening that loss would be Randle's former Bastrop teammate - Deangelo Benton. Benton is going to come in as a 6'3" 215 pound, 20 year old freshman. The guy will be an absolute force.

chiles problem is he couldnt out play colt. we have no incumbent stud for shep to dethrone. and chiles is not in RS's class as a playmaker

No. How could that possibly help his development as our field general?

Will there be plays in the Wild Tiger where he splits out wide?: yes. Heck, J Lee split out wide a few times, but will he play WR?: no.

Jordan Jefferson will be the incumbent starter for Shepard to beat out. Jefferson has a stronger arm, a bigger frame, and will have been in the system for 5 and a half more months with actual PT in 2 regular season games and a bowl game.

The great thing for Shepard is that he's coming in January which gives him a shot to be more than just a change of pace, but what I was trying to explain in the original post was that even if he is used as a WR a couple of snaps a game, it's nothing more than a wrinkle in the offense. He'll be a QB, and he'll give Crowton that spread option guy that he's been coveting.

whys that? hes 0-2 in games hes played in so far. he shows ability, but to set his name in stone as the starter is a bit premature, IMO

I hope he's more than just a change of pace QB. He runs like a wide receiver not a quarterback. We can use him for a lot of stuff besides wildcat

Please tell me you're not this short-sighted. We're not 0-2 because of Jordan Jefferson. He's played extremely well.

Okay, so when Spring practice rolls around... given the way the three guys have performed this season... and considering that Shep would have never taken a snap in college ball (and mind you, he's probably never taken a snap from under center)... who is your starting QB?

extremely well gets us a first down in the 4th quarter. 2 loses may not be entirely his fault, but he sure didnt do enough to win either game(the ark game specifically).

ohio state benched a QB who helped them win a conference championship and a BCSCG berth. they saw they were limited with beockman and sacrificed this year, played a true frosh with a ton of ability, to set up the next few years. we dont have a QB half as good as todd beockman.

this isnt the pros... so i dont see how this matters

First off... who started the season at QB? Boeckman or Pryor?

Secondly, you're sort of bashing Jefferson, but the fact of the matter is Jefferson has looked better than Pryor throwing the ball this year. If you watch OSU games, you'll see just how skeptical OSU is of Pryor's ability in the passing game.

LSU still runs quite a bit of the offense from under center.

boeckman... until they decided he wasnt the long term solution. why make this mistake if we can avoid it before it happens?

i stated he has looked ok. he ran bootlegs well the other day. but i would hardly call 9/21 143yds 6.8avg 2td/0int passing and 19 rushes for 50yds 2.6avg 0td anything irreplaceble. lets just say peyton manning wouldnt be proud of that stat line.

his record and the statistics disagree
2008: 95/152 1245yds 62.5completion % 8.19ypa 12td/4int espn

they wont need to if they have a true spread QB. just b/c jarrett lee runs a 5.0 40 is not a reason shep will take snaps under center

i dont know what we are really arguing over. nothing hatch/j-lee/JJ has done so far makes them deserving of the first team snaps in the spring, AS OF RIGHT NOW. i want the same as you(i think)-- a qb, whoever it is, to step up and play great for our tigahs. i personally think it will be a true freshman next year. hes special. mentally ready and physically gifted. i would rather go 9-3 or 8-4 next year so we can go 11-1 the next 2 years rather then going 10-2 for 3 years, struggeling through back breaking j-lee pick 6s.
