Shawn Wilson is running for Governor of Louisiana. He is a Democrat who has been involved in state government for 25 years.
Most recently, Shawn served as Louisiana’s Secretary of Transportation and Development, a position he held from 2016 until March 2023.
On his website you'll find that Shawn claims he transformed the agency to be more collaborative and efficient at leveraging resources and delivering services - resulting in groundbreakings on decades old improvements and multimodal infrastructure.
I call bullshite on that claim...and I challenge him to ride with me on a small stretch of Highway 61 from Gramercy to Sorrento on any given day. If you're familiar with it, I'm sure you'd agree that it feels like a bad roller coaster ride.
Louisiana has the worst roads I've ever seen. I'd have to say to Shawn....YOU'RE FIRED!

I can only think that our beloved, pro-life worthless governator gave it to him to promote the black vote .

Especially in NOLA which always gets to submit their poll totals LAST....therefore knowing how many illegal votes are needed ;like Atlanta but Atlanta has invented a new wrinkle by turning lights off and sending everyone home then turning lights back on and dublicating previous vote totals.

There is not a single project that was built under his administration that was not planned long before he got into office. That's the nature of construction, funding, and bills.

I took airline back to BR from New Orleans one day. My God, that stretch of road is in awful shape.

Worst agency in the whole rotten ineffective state government.

I don’t even care what his positions are. He headed DOTD for several years. Automatic no.

Someone needs to run an ad just showing US 90 -- a FEDERAL highway, not some dinky state highway-- across the Pearl River, which has been closed for over a year, and...

wait for it...

is not scheduled to be re-opened until 2028.

That's all you need to know about him.

The West Pearl River Bridge is 90 years old and was closed in May 2022 because of structural deterioration.

The deterioration is significant enough to require the bridge to be replaced, DOTD spokesman Daniel Gitlin tells Axios. "Repair is not a feasible solution."

Four other bridges that cross the West Pearl and its tributaries also need to be replaced, he says.

The project's current timeline is for bids to start in 2025 with construction lasting three years.

By the numbers: It will cost an estimated $250 million to replace the current roadway from the West Pearl bridge through Mississippi, including the five bridges, Gitlin says.

The state has yet to secure the money, with Gitlin noting it exceeds the state's annual statewide budget for bridge construction.

The state also has an $18.8 billion backlog of construction and repair needs, he added.

Between the lines: Many of the state's roads and bridges in need of work have higher traffic counts than the U.S. 90 bridges, Gitlin says.

"Unfortunately, there is no quick fix that will address the U.S. 90 bridges crossing the Pearl River," he said in a statement.

Yes, but: St. Tammany leaders say the bridge closures are needed for daily life and hurricane evacuations.

St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper told Fox 8 he is "deeply concerned" about the closures.

And state Sen. Sharon Hewitt, who is an underdog Republican candidate in the governor's race, called out Wilson in an open letter, criticizing the closure, and asked for the construction to be expedited.

The letter was also signed by state Rep. Bob Owen, who like Hewitt is from Slidell.

Wilson told the Louisiana Illuminator that "she is misinformed" in regard to Hewitt's claim that Highway 90 is a designated evacuation route. He also said he coordinated with his counterparts in Mississippi about the closure.

Given the past few years, I have downgraded Democrats from naive idealists to narcissists complacent with the destruction of the Constitution to line their own pockets (either by kickbacks or welfare).

Wilson would need to build seven loops around Baton Rouge before I would entertain voting Democrat again.

Highway 1 from Donaldsonville to Paincourtville is horrible. The only repairs being made are shaving the buckling that makes it worse.

Not taking up for the guy, but that’s a federal highway not state. Talk to your buddy Pete Buttgig about that one.

Jon Bel’s plan to address 12.7 Billion dollar highway backlog

That’s not a typo. Jon Bel lamented the fact that Jindal left such a big highway backlog. Well despite the state raising taxes to record levels, JBE and Shawn Wilson goosed the backlog up to 18 Billion dollars.

Wilson is running on one of the same issues that his boss ran on. He is running on his accomplishments in the JBE administration.
He must think people are stupid. Well if he wins I guess he’s right.

The fact that this guy was given any responsibility for anything more than the back of a garbage truck is an illustration of how fricked our country has become!

The problems with DOTD have been around long before he came around.

But he did absolutely nothing to even try to fix it or make it any better.

I award him no points...
