What are your thoughts on this band? Working my way through their catalog, I find that their music tells a story and has such a unique ambiance to it.
After first pass, I like all albums, but if I had to rank them, it would be:
1. Lonesome Dreams
2. Strange Trails
3. Long Lost
4. Vide Noir.
Lonesome Dreams, their first, is the clear cut favorite. The songs, top to bottom, are the best, most unique, and raw.
Strange Trails picks up where Lonesome Dreams ends, it just lacks something. I can’t put my finger on it. It’s just a “lesser” Lonesome Dreams, imo.
Long Lost is a little slower and stripped down. It has a cool 50’s, slow dance feel to it.
Vide Noir is more upbeat…for some reason it reminds me of Pulp Fiction. Fun album, just a notable gap from the other three.
Their music just tells a story and has little filler. It invokes images of wide open spaces, Route-66, nights at classic, American diners, desert, aliens, mountains and foggy trails, old comic books, California boardwalks and 50s and 60s California surfing, rocky, foggy, misty mountainous coastline, and simpler times. I find them to be a unique, unique band with a unique sound. What do you think?

One of the old women that flirts with me a lot really likes them.
It's pretty cool stuff though.

My best friend has a nephew in the band. That's all I got.

I love them. Strange Trails is an all time great record. They can be a little repetitive in their themes but the music is great.
Favorite songs are:
Cursed
La Belle Fleur Savage
Mine Forever
Love Like Ghosts

Saw them at Red Rocks last summer and it was a fantastic show. I really like them a lot and my wife loves them.

Love Lord Huron. They are fantastic live too. They were my top listen on Spotify for probably 2-3 years in a row.
Lonesome Dreams and Strange Trails are super close but I'd probably give the edge to Lonesome Dreams by just a little. Vide Noir next and Long Lost being a distant 4th place.
I LOVE their first three albums and don't like Long Lost at all. one of the more disappointing albums in recent memory for me. Just too weird. There are few things I hate more on an album are just long periods of random sounds that are counting as songs. I don't want to hear waves crashing or some chimes dinging for 4 minutes straight. It makes no sense and adds nothing to the album.
Still love them, but really looking forward to their next album to hopefully give something better than their last effort.
Well worth going to see live though if you get the opportunity.

I love the theme of this album. Gives me Davis Lynch vibes.
Enjoy. Products of the Universe
Also, watch Alive from the Whispering Pines. Radio show in the Huron universe.

Saw them in Austin a couple of years ago without having ever heard of them. I liked the music, but it all sounded so similar you almost couldn’t tell a difference from one song to the next. They also drug their encore out about 20 minutes too long

Wow, can’t believe it’s been more than 10 years since Lonesome Dreams came out.

They have been a band that "made it on my playlists" for a long time. I saw them live after Vide Noir in NOLA a couple of years ago and it completely changed them for me. They became one of my favorite bands and I will make it a point to see them any time they are within reasonable driving distance of me.
I would highly recommend their live show. It's an experience and there is an incredible amount of thought that goes into the production. They're also incredibly tight and impressive musically. One of my favorite bands.

Should be your number one. It's top to bottom extremely solid.
