I had this guy show up the past couple nights right at sundown. How old would you guess? I’m an amateur at this, but I’m thinking 3-3.5. I’m in the Monroe area.

He’s the back right one here.

And here’s a couple more to help.

Monroe area. I should have said that so I’m adding it to the OP.

That last image is deceiving with that chest. Give him a little bit to bulk up and you will be able to age him for sure. All deer look 1-2 years younger in the summer months. For now, I say 4yr old.

Yeah, hopefully I see him on the hoof during the season. I'm debating on whether or not I would take a shot at him or let him go another year, if I'm lucky enough to see him. If he looks 4, I'd no doubt let an arrow fly.

I also say 3.5 but I wouldn't be really surprised if it was 4

Good find.

My guess 4-5 year old. Beautiful deer

I wouldn’t let him go a year longer if he stepped out

I think you're dead on with the 3-4 year old.

Look- I would shoot him personally but if you can consistently get him in your spot and wait a year or two you could have an absolute bruiser on your hands. You also could have a nocturnal bruiser on your hands, you never know

Figured I would just add mine here instead of starting a new post. First picture is after the season was over. Just went out cameras back out. 2 different deer. Dad and probably his son.

My guess would be 4-5 for the top and about 3.5 for the bottom.

They'll both get shot if I see them!

The easiest (and only good way I know of) to identity a 4.5 year old is the neck line. Under 4.5 there’s an obvious juncture where the neck ends and the chest begins. On a 4.5 and above that’s a smooth line from the throat all the way to the chest area. Based on that criteria he’s 3.5. He’s a frigging HAMMER for that age. If you could get him to his NEXT set of antlers they’ll be massive. Good luck with that though. Fantastic buck

It’s a tough call for sure and hopefully I get an opportunity to make that choice one way or another.

There’s only 2 or 3 other people hunting the adjacent 500 acres (I’m on 40), so it’s not out of the realm of possibility that I’d see him next season. I believe they rifle hunt versus me bow hunting.

Explain the .5 year to me (3.5, 4.5 vs. 3, 4). Wouldn’t that put the doe bred in February/March?

If 3.3 makes you feel better, then I can say that. I round to half years. So 3, 3.5, 4, etc. The rut begins in early November by me. It’s just a guess.
