Amid a continued influx of migrants to New York City, Mayor Eric Adams has directed every city agency to cut city-funded spending, Adams announced Saturday.

Adams said the cuts will not include layoffs.

"The simple truth is that longtime New Yorkers and asylum seekers will feel these potential cuts, and they will hurt," Adams said.

In a video announcement, the mayor called the influx of migrants arriving in the city "a crisis that will cost our city $12 billion over three fiscal years."

He blamed the federal and state government for causing the city to make this decision.

"These tough decisions are a direct result of inaction in Washington and Albany," Adams said.

City agencies will be asked to submit a plan showing how they can cut costs by 5% for the upcoming November budget update, by another 5% in January's preliminary budget and by a final 5% in April's executive budget, according to the mayor.

On top of budget cuts, Adams said the city is working to reduce costs by moving migrants out of the shelter system.

"New York City cannot bear the burden of this national crisis on our own. But these spending reductions are what will have to happen if we continue on our current course," Adams said. "This is a national crisis that requires national leadership. It's time for our partners to join us."

New York City has opened up more than 200 emergency shelters for more than 110,000 migrants who have arrived. Approximately 10,000 asylum seekers are still arriving each month, according to the city.

In an interview with with Dan Mannarino that aired Sunday morning on “PIX on Politics,” Adams doubled down on his plan, saying the city is facing “a financial tsunami.”

“I’m not going to lie to the people of this city on the danger we’re in right now,” Adams said.

You hate to see it

According to reports the migrant hotels are packed and they’re receiving luxury suites, pools, dining service, and money. The migrants have had multiple police calls for late night parties, attacks on children, and even had some children pass away.

liberal policies continue to fail liberal cities. No wonder every major city is a shithole.

He stopped short of explaining what the federal government should do, because I believe he wants the feds to force Texas to quit sending them. Not, have the feds enforce the border.

So the richest city in the world, already complete with infrastructure wants border towns in Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas to foot the bill instead despite claiming NYC as a Sanctuary City?

I agree with him that this is a federal and state failure, but he called for this. He just doesn’t like that someone answered his call

I don’t know much about them but I had friend that was driving a bus as a side gig for someone we know. He was telling me one day that he was picking up illegal immigrants every day from those apartments and bussing them out to jobs.

Friend,

All in keeping with New York's beautiful history. I believe I once read that in 1910, 75% of New York's inhabitants were either immigrants or first generation American. New York is arguably the greatest city in the world thanks to this constant immigrant influx, which, like today, gave locals and especially elected leaders cause for fear and gnashing of teeth.

My family's line traces back to the first Puritans to arrive on New England soil. Sadly, many of my ancestors did not embrace immigrants, especially Italians and Irish. I hope not to repeat their errors.

Yours,

Lake Charles is full of Hondurans still left over from the storm repair. They were all camping out in Home Depot for the past 3 years. I am guessing they rent there since it's close to Lowe's and HD. I am not aware of those apartments being low income but every new development has to dedicate part of the development to low income so maybe.

Yeah, none of them are asylum seekers. None are fleeing persecution. They are all illegal aliens looking for free stuff.
