My next door neighbor did the weather for KC, and Bowling for Dollars. Fred Broski. Len Dawson sat next to him, doing sports. Super nice guy, there are not enough nice things to say about him.
Myron Cope lived about 5 doors down in the suburbs south of Pittsburgh. I never actually met him but from everything I've heard the guy was close to a literal saint. He had a severely autistic son and spent all his time when away from his career dealing with that. He had a TV persona (Terrible Towel in particular) and a very different life at home. He was the first sportscaster elected into the NFL hall of fame, and from what I heard from neighbors it was well earned.
Heh - met Pat Shingleton a few times. Nice enough guy.

Skipper Dick Miller did the news at channel 12 CBS when he wasn't doing the Skipper Dick Show with Popeye Cartoons. I got to Sit in the peanut gallery for a show.
Woodie Asaph was Channel 3 (NBC) Weatherman.
Two old geezers were sitting outside the Bolton Cotton Gin one hot afternoon. One turned to the other and said, "You know, we used to have good weather until they hired that Woodie Asaph guy."
Bob Neblett did the Channel 12 (CBS) weather and Seale-Lily Ice Cream commercials. He was totally bald and always talked about broadcasting from the "Bald Hill in South Jackson." He was famous for eating ice cream on camera and talking about how good it was. drove a Studebaker Avanti, which was a pretty cool car back in the day. Had a porthole side window behind the driver. Looked racy-cool.
Michael Rubenstein Sports Broadcaster for WLBT 3 (NBC) Loved Ole Miss. Always took their side. In Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame

Mike Graham wrote me a ticket for running the light at Hyacinth and Stanford when I was 16. When I was in my 20’s I rubbed my balls all over Pat Shingleton’s weather desk during a drunken after hours tour of Channel 2.

A ghey named Rich Thomas on WSFA in Montgomery.
I grew up with him as well. He and Bob Howell were staples on WSFA.
Rich Thomas went out in spectacular style though. Went on a coke bender and crashed a news van.

Huntley/Brinkley on NBC, Walter Cronkite on CBS, and Howard K. Smith on ABC. Local TV guys, Miami, Florida: Weaver the Weatherman, Chuck Zink, Gabriel Heater (an old time newspaper hack who did TV sort of drunk with a white shirt and loosened tie), and Larry King radio dude from Miami Beach before he got famous.

We got 'local' news from D.C. metro. Willard Scott was our weather man after Tippy left because she married Chet Huntley.
A lot of 'names' had weekend places in the counties near us. That they were 'national' wasn't that big when you see them at the local grocery store.
