When I have a dream, most often the “setting” for the dream is the house I grew up in. Even though I’ve now lived in my current home longer than anywhere else, a lot of my dreams take place in the house I grew up in.
I just wonder why that is and I wonder if others have the same experience. I had a great childhood, grew up in the 70s.
The dreams are typical dreams, but in the dreams I’m usually standing in the kitchen of my childhood home, or in the backyard, etc.
I think it shows how much those years of our life shape us and make us who we are. But still, it’s strange how the mind does that; keeps bringing me back to that house.
Anyone have a similar experience with their dreams?

Yes and I think this is common. My mom is in her 70s and still dreams about her childhood home. It’s sad and beautiful all at the same time

My dreams are often about travel, although not travel to some exotic location, but instead travel for club and high school soccer. I’ll be on some expressway in Texas, Arkansas, or Tennessee trying to find the host complex while simultaneously dealing with some team issue.

The only familiar settings I ever have in dreams are from college. Otherwise, it's usually traveling or driving somewhere. The amount of time I've spent in traffic in Houston, or looking for a parking space, probably has a lot to do with that.

Many years ago we were talking to an old family friend … she was this sweet little old blind lady. She went completely blind as a kid. I think she was around 10 or so years old or maybe few years older.

She said dreams were her favorite thing because she could see again. She lived a decade plus of early life with full vision, and so she could see again in her dreams. That’s also sad and beautiful at the same time.

Sidenote: She also mentioned how different sounds produced different color sensations. She said sudden loud noises were bright silver in her mind.

I always thought it was fascinating to think about. Even though she was blind for nearly 80 years or so, she was “lucky” enough to have had vision and know what the world visually looks like.

Yep, same here. In some I go outside the home and there is doom in the sky. My fears of apocalypse probably. The house is the anchor, representing comfort and familiarity.

Same for me. I lived there for 13 years and over 50% of my dreams are in that house.

Those are the formative years. I always thinks of my parents in their 30's, not 60's.

There was a thread a week or so ago, about your childhood home. I got to explore mine, 3 years after we left, because it was abandoned. It was a cool 2 story home, built in the 30's-40's.The attic had been converted to a huge upstairs, which was my domain. The dreams are never typically pleasant, but most of my dreams aren't.

I usually don’t remember my dreams. When I have a dream about a specific location, such as my house or my parents house I grew up in or the schools I went to, it is usually that place in understanding only. Meaning those places look nothing like they do in real life, but my mind knows it is that location. I never understood that.

I used to dream of our camp in Slidell sitting alone in water. Sometimes I’d be in the water also. I’ve never had that dream again after Katrina.

I've never had a dream where I was with family or at a previous home that I can remember. I don't know what that says about my childhood
