What’s to do besides seeing the falls?

Time in the area? Time of year? How long are you planning in Niagara vs Canada vs Buffalo? Canadian falls view is better than the US, there's a bridge you can walk across from the US side. I'd start at US side, walk over, see falls, view the area (lots of magic type shops, carnival esque area), then walk back to US. Buffalo area go to Bar Bill Tavern, original one is in East Aurora. East Aurora is a great area to walk around, no open container laws either. Few breweries, bars, and shops.
CSB- Last time I was at the falls in May I did see a baby and mama goose coming from the Niagara River towards Bridal Veil Falls. Saw the baby goose was struggling to get out of the current. Water was picking up and I didn't see them getting closer to the side of the land. Next thing I knew I saw the baby and mama goose go over the falls... Gotta give the mom credit as she stayed with the kid until the end. People next to me witnessed it too and asked if that just happened? The mom went over and hugged her children

October. Couple of days. Want a hotel with room with view of falls.

I think you'd get a better use of your time in Buffalo vs the falls. Do the falls for an afternoon and night and get a hotel on the Canadian side for the best view. I think the Sheraton or Marriott Falls View are the nicest ones but hopefully someone comes and can chime in as I only did daytrips
If you need a hotel in Buffalo, Marriott harbor center is awesome. Very close to all the downtown bars, there's a hofbraus Haus if you want to get rowdy

Niagara Falls Marriott Fallsview Hotel has some nice rooms with views of the falls. The nighttime light show on the falls from a room there is worth it in my opinion. There's a short tram just below the hotel ($1CAD or something like that) that can take you down the steep incline to some of the falls attractions instead of walking all the way around or fighting for parking. If you have a car then Niagara-On-The-Lake is a fun half-day trip.

They have some wineries there.

I stayed at the Embassy Suites and had a view of the falls, and i could half open the window and could hear it, so that was nice.
There's not much to do in Niagara other than the falls. if you have a car, drive north. There are wineries all over and Toronto isn't that far, and Toronto is an awesome city.

Others hit on the hotels, but you can jump around the different hotels and click on the views form the rooms.
The obvious must-dos are the Maid of the Mist (boat tour that you see everyone in the colorful ponchos), Journey Behind the Falls walk/tour, Wildplay Zipline, hiking trail along the whirlpool
As others said, these can all be done in 1-2 days.

This! I'd stay in Toronto and go visit the fall and Niagara-on-the-Lake for a day and Toronto for the rest of the time. That area is known for it's Ice Wine. It's only made a few places.

That's exactly how i felt after my trip.
We flew into Buffalo and spent a day in Buffalo, 2 in Niagara, and 1 in Toronto, and if i could do it again, i would have done 3 in Toronto and 1 in Niagara.

Grab lunch or dinner at Paris Crepes Cafe in Niagara if you’re heading to the Canadian side. I’ve never had anything bad there. The duck leg confit stands out though.
