This person did:

Pay Cut to Work Remote

I currently work 2 days a week in office. I've already decided myself I would leave the Company if they try to force more outside of maybe a random day where they have meetings. The only way to get me in the office more would be to offer a significant pay bump.

Other wise I'll offer to take a pay cut and if they don't accept I'll turn in my resignation. These Companies that are run by "butts in seats boomers" need to realize that if they are completely inflexible they will lose their best talent.

I think in future years you'll see the best talent go to Companies who have remote work or at least flexible work arrangements. Those Companies will then over the long term out perform the Companies that fail to adapt.

I actually did the reverse. Not quite that dramatic of a pay cut and I'm slowly climbing back to where I was. I like the flexibility of remote work, but it's not effective full time. You can't develop employees or a corporate culture.

Working remotely sucks. There is no separation btwn your job and your home.

This is just another way that Big Business / Big Tech is trying to enslave you. They’re taking over where you live. You will own nothing. And you will like it.

No

This is the self checkout methodology at work. Saving the company money at your expense.

I disagree. Now yes you have to have the correct setup. If you're office desk is in your living room or bedroom I would agree that's not a good setup.

But if you have a separate bedroom or office room you can do you can compartmentalize that room.

I use a spare bedroom as my office room now. When I'm not at work that door stays closed. When I'm done for the day the laptop gets turned off. I don't feel like it's invaded where I live.

If anything it's the opposite. Big Business / Big Tech is trying to force back to the office to enslave you. By trying to force us back to the office that means they get to dictate where we live. Which means forcing people back into the sh*thole big cities. Never mind there's nothing more soul draining than working in a bland cubicle farm.

If it wasn't for big businesses trying to force people back NYC would still be a ghost town.

The pandemic showed people true freedom. The freedom to live where they want instead of their job forcing them to live in a certain area.

I’ve been working remotely going 16 years.

I don’t think I would ever go back into the office.

too many factors for a simple yes or no...

Whats salary before/after?
Whats commute time daily?
Whats mileage to work?
What are office hours?

If you're making mid to high 100k and commuting 2hrs a day and putting 100 miles on car per work trip, then its worth it IMO.

These threads always go well. WFH offends a lot of grumpy old men here.

Never mind that some people have NEVER worked from an office, ever... it's just the notion that people who once drove to an office to sit at a desk no longer have to drive to sit at a desk that offends their 1950s mentality.

Working remote is awesome but I live in an area where commutes are brutal so it’s great for me to work from home

If I lived in an area where commutes weren’t bad then I would probably dislike working from home

Absolutely not.

But I actually like the team and many of the people I work with, so I enjoy being able to visit with them.

We have a good balance now. Work from Home on Mondays and Fridays. Office the middle days of the week.

We moved from DFW area (Frisco) back to Louisiana in early 2022 to be closer to family. At that time, we were still mostly remote working. Now with a new CIO we are doing a more strict hybrid model where we are in the office 3 days a week (Tues - Thurs). Moving back to LA has saved me thousands in property taxes alone. I live in N Louisiana so travel back to DFW is a 45 min flight or 4 hour drive. Easy to do. Since I moved prior to the new return to office policy went into effect, I only have to be in office 2 days a week.

Yep. If it was up to some of the boomers here who want their 1950's back we would still be using the horse and buggy.

Adapt or die. Those companies who fail to adapt will ultimately lose their top talent and IMO long term will fail.

I started my first WFH a year and half ago... thought I would hate it, but I love it.

The flexibility is amazing and frick sitting in a car for hours a day.

Doesn't seem like a good deal considering he still has to go to the office 2 days a week.

No, but I work 15 minutes away from my house and I while I am well-compensated, I don't make OT money so $35k is a lot.

I don't begrudge those that would make that choice though. A lot of different people with different circumstances.

something can be said for leaving your job at the job site.

but also something can be said for rolling out of bed, throwing on a tshirt and logging into work a minute before you need to log into work.

i think it really depends on things like whether you have a dedicated space for an office. i had coworkers who had a full house and didn’t buy their home anticipating needing an office

For some, yes, but that's almost entirely due to poor leadership that doesn't have a clue how to manage people without looking over their shoulders.
