Hurricane Idalia ripped through Florida’s Nature Coast, leaving a path of destruction behind.

But, as the floodwaters recede, there is a new risk threatening owners of electric vehicles.

Two Tesla cars, one in Palm Harbor and another in Pinellas Park, seemed to spontaneously combust after becoming flooded with saltwater during the hurricane, Florida officials said.

On Aug. 30, Palm Harbor Fire Rescue responded to a Tesla on fire in Dunedin, according to the department’s Facebook post.

The car had become flooded with saltwater during the storm surge following Hurricane Idalia.

Tesla fire in Dunedin...Follow our warning below.
!!!WARNING!!!

If you own a hybrid or electric vehicle that has come into contact with saltwater due to recent flooding within the last 24 hours, it is crucial to relocate the vehicle from your garage without delay. Saltwater exposure can trigger combustion in lithium-ion batteries. If possible, transfer your vehicle to higher ground.

*This includes golf carts and electric scooters. Don’t drive these through water. PHFR crews have seen numerous residents out in golf carts and children on scooters riding through water.

It’s what prevents meaningful/widespread electric boats.

Lithium and saltwater tends to make fire.

Biden is responsible for Tesla's popularity. The Torch said so.

Those battery fires are going to increase global warming. Then we'll get more hurricanes. Then more battery fires. Then more hurricanes. Then more battery fires. Then more hurricanes. Then more battery fires. Then more hurricanes. Then more battery fires. Then more hurricanes. Then more battery fires. Then more hurricanes.

Sweet. Guess when my battery dies I’ll just dump salt water on it.

True. But it doesn’t turn most of them into a giant road flare.

Amazon’s new electric delivery vans cause a small explosion and burn completely simply from being left on the charger too long, true story. I saw personal pics but I’m sure there are photos online.

Check this out. You can also watch Amazon ICE vehicles on fire. Here are two for you....

Zachary Amazon Van fire

and another. I can post tons of them.

Guess what vehicles catch fire at a higher rate than electric vehicles.

I wasn’t making any assertion other than they’re burning up from being left on a charger too long. Other vans burning up more has nothing to do with what I wrote. So, great, I guess?

Man-made things have issues especially new technologies. Catching fire from being left on the charger too long is probably easily correctable. Old proven technologies have issues, too. They've been building ICE vehicles since the 1800s and they still catch fire. There will never be a day when vehicles don't catch fire...ICE or EV. It is what it is. You can probably make multiple posts per day about vehicle fires. shite breaks, shite catches fire.

You’re very emotional about this. You would think new technologies would not be delivered to customers to be used and maintained by near minimum wage employees if there was a high risk of fire danger. In this particular case it was in uncovered parking spaces but that’s probably not always the case. If you can’t see the problem this could create for a logistics company, I’m not sure what else to tell you. I would assume this will be corrected as well but it certainly makes it no less of a giant frick up. Your knighting for new tech means nothing in this case.
