Tagging along on someone else's work trip. No plans, looking at something like Frank Lloyd Wright house/studio or other things along that line.

Have been to Chicago several times. Done the Navy Pier and adjacent stuff, been to Museum of Science/Industry, a lot of other downtown stuff.

Cubs are out of town, White Sox in town. Have a rental car if needed, but dont mind ubers or public transit.

Food related stuff is cool, don't mind a cool pub or brewery type thing. Like people watching. Car related stuff would be golden.

Do one of the architecture tours on the Chicago River. Really interesting.

Eat some different ethnic food. An affordable choice that I liked was Red Apple Polish Buffet.

Do a tour of Wrigley. One added bonus of doing it while the Cubs are out of town is you get to go in the visitors locker room.

Untouchables tour was cool when I did it. But that was 30 years ago. They take you to all the mafia highlights of the city.

Renting bikes along Lake Michigan and stopping wherever seems interesting never let me down.

Architecture river cruise is a must.

1. Run for your life.
2. Architecture cruise
3. Field Museum
4. Go to bar on 96th floor of John Hancock building and enjoy the view with a drink
5. Get the cornbread crust pizza at Gino’s East
6. Art Institute of Chicago
7. Eat in Chinatown. It’s the real deal and not a tourist trap.
8. Avoid Navy Pier

Seen this a few times so think I will do it. Right up my alley really.

Alcohol and heights, one of the best mixtures. It is a great recommendation.
Hancock Building is my favorite building of all time

Leave your rental car unless you are going into the suburbs. It's PITA.

There are some exotic car dealers downtown that are cool to visit. One on Chicago/Rush, other is perhaps on LaSalle.

You can tour FLW's house in Oak Park. It's cool. There is also a store downtown in the Rookery building, or at least there was before Covid. The Rookery is a Louis Sullivan building, he was FLW's mentor. It's very cool.

If you enjoy outdoor activities go kayaking on the river. If you’re coming this week, go to a beach. I feel like that’s a Chicago experience not many tourists get.

My wife and daughter went to Chicago last year. They both still talk about how great the boat architecture tour was.

If you've been to Chicago and done all the touristy stuff and are hanging out solo during the day, get out of downtown.

Take a different train to a different hood each day. Brown line to Lakeview, North Center, Ravenswood and Lincoln Square. Irving Park stop will get you in walking distance to quite a few breweries. The brown line back into downtown is worth it alone.

Blue line to Ukrainian Village, Wicker Park, Logan Square, Avondale.

Pink line to West Loop and Pilsen.

I can suggest bars, breweries, restaurants, and parks in any of those locations
