Pawn shops aren’t as much a store as they are a lending company. The expectation is that you are coming back for your stuff that you put up for collateral.

I've found some bang up deals at pawn shops. Bought a custom desktop from one back in 05 or 06 that I played WoW on for years. If I remember correctly, I priced all the components in it vs building one exactly like it and I saved about $600.

It seems to me it is extremely rare that anything is actually pawned at a pawn shop.

Something like a cheap wedding ring or something is the only shite anyone is actually trying to pretend they will pay back for.

Online sales probably put an interstate commerce charge on stolen items.

Some of it is to legitimize (launder) cash. Most all of them fence gold and silver coins (golden eagle, Indian head.) It's a weird business model. Back in the day, you could go and buy all of the loose Craftsman hand tools and sockets. Sears would swap them for new if they were damaged because of the lifetime guarantee.

Glad they are still in business, can find great deals on tools if you know what to look for.

I often wonder that. The ones I went to were surprisingly expensive for the things they were selling.
