California Sen. Dianne Feinstein has relinquished power of attorney to her daughter — even as she continues to serve in Congress at the age of 90, according to a report.
The Democratic senator — who is the oldest member of Congress — has faced calls to resign after health complications kept her away from the Capitol for months earlier this year.
Since returning to Washington DC, she has appeared frail and has had a number of public mental lapses.
Feinstein handed over power of attorney to her daughter, 66-year-old Katherine Feinstein, in part to help handle legal battles over her late husband Richard Blum’s estate, the New York Times reported on Thursday.
In one dispute, Katherine, Feinstein’s only child, is at odds with Blum’s three daughters over the ownership of a luxury beach house owned by Feinstein, according to the paper.
In a separate lawsuit, the two families are feuding over Blum’s life insurance, which Feinstein claims she needs to cover her increasing medical costs, The Times reported.
Feinstein, who has represented California for over 30 years, announced earlier this year that she would not seek re-election in 2024. Several longtime colleagues have leaked to the press that her mental acuity has significantly declined.
Last week, the former San Francisco mayor had to be prompted several times by a colleague to say “aye” when it was her turn to cast her vote on the $831.781 billion Defense Appropriations Bill during a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing.
Feinstein was briefly hospitalized in February for complications due to shingles. She was released to her San Francisco home, where she recovered for the next two months.
She returned to Washington in May, but seemed confused about her months-long absence when confronted by reporters, insisting that she had not left Congress to recover from the illness, but had been there voting the whole time.
Feinstein relies on staffers to push her wheelchair, remind her how and when she should vote and explain what is happening when she becomes confused, according to a New York Times report earlier this year.

The same fricks who voted her in are now moving to other states infecting them like the virus they are.

No longer has the capacity to control things in her own life.
Has the capacity to control things in everyone else's life.
Our Republic is beyond fricked.

And not single word about it from Turtle.
Oh, wait, he might have been in the middle of a grand mal when this news broke.
Maybe he gets a pass.

This is becoming more the rule than the exception.

Is DiFi competent at this point? I do not know, but certainly less so than ten years ago.
Nonetheless, executing a Power of Attorney says nothing useful on the point. Some are acting as if she has surrendered the legal right to act on her own behalf… essentially some sort of voluntary non compos mentis declaration. No.
It just lets someone act on your behalf, often for convenience. A competent, brilliant 25yo could execute one.

Other than delegate your life decisions to others because, ostensibly, you no longer have the mental acuity to competently do so on your own.
If someone has gone so far as to announce they don't believe they have the acuity for self-governance (by getting a POA), they should not be allowed to govern others.

Haaaaaaafricking haaaaaaa
Man you go out of your way to say the dumbest shite.
Answer this
What is the real benefit of a POA?
Not your lawyered up explanation but the real reason?

She’s an elected official that had to give up powers for herself.
She has to vote and make decisions for a population. Yet she can’t be trusted to do some things for her own good.
Think about that jfc.

You would defend a corpse if it was a Democrat, and she’s very close to being one.

You can't expect her to just go back to living among the People, her subjects, that she's ruled over all these years. It's her birthright to stay at the Capitol till the last breath.

Her staff is committing elder abuse.
Her daughter is committing elder abuse.
Schumer is committing elder abuse.
The Citizens of california are not being properly represented , their tax dollars are being used to commit fraud.

quote:There are two, usually unrelated. One is certainly the motivation discussed in the OP. The person who is losing mental acuity can certainly designate someone to act on his or her behalf.
What is the real benefit of a POA?
The other is simply a matter of convenience. A perfectly competent person can designate someone to act on his behalf, often because they cannot be present themselves or because they do not want to be bothered with certain types of decisions
both usages are very common.
from the two articles that I read, it looks like there is some ongoing litigation, and Feinstein basically just said to her daughter “you handle it.“

it is just as common for a power of attorney constitute nothing more than “delegation.“

Dedicated public servant, stunning and brave..
A normal human would acknowledge, at least to themselves, that they can no longer do their job and retire to one of their mansions to enjoy their final days. These pissgoblins are going to milk us dry until their final breaths. Who tf does that?
Frickin psychopaths.
Really. What exactly are the limits of the health plan they voted for, for themselves. And what care is she getting that someone worth 110 mil can't cover themselves?

Dictation again I see.
And I don’t know anyone of sound mind to execute a POA just for convenience. Now there are instances where a POA is valuable for what you describe as convenience.
I would venture a guess that the majority of POA are to deal with older folk that are approaching mental instability and can’t handle their own affairs properly.
