‘Just not comfortable’: Pressure mounting to remove crocodile as Florida law enforcement gets involved
quote:
SATELLITE BEACH, Fla. - A crocodile is too close for comfort in some waterfront communities.
Earlier this week, FOX 35 News reported on the reptile eating a dog in a Satellite Beach canal. Pressure from some homeowners is intensifying to relocate the reptile before it strikes again.
Neighbors who live near water said they have seen the crocodile swim right up to the shore in their back canals, and people often watch children wade through the water where the crocodile has been hanging out. Some are worried it’s a matter of time before a tragedy unfolds.
quote:
"I understand they’re endangered species and again, we live in Florida – but we’re just not comfortable as a community having a crocodile make it our home," echoed Cheri Marks who’s the HOA president for Manatee Reserve.
She says seniors, kids, and pets could all be in danger from the rare reptile that already ate a small pug dog on July 31.
"It’s just worse than you can even imagine," Nielsen added, thinking about the grieving family. "I mean, they’re part of your family."
quote:
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) calls American crocodiles in Florida a conservation success story. Their numbers have grown from a few hundred to nearly 2,000, and the animal is federally protected meaning it's illegal to feed or harm them. Still, it’s been difficult to change the public’s perception of the animal.]
quote:
As for what’s next, FWC said, they’re getting law enforcement involved. It’s important to stay away from the water’s edge at dusk and dawn because that’s when the animal eats and make sure to keep animals on a leash at all times.

Crocs are a different problem. More aggressive. Not like a saltwater croc but more than an alligator for sure

I remember when they decided that alligators were "endangered." They weren't and now there is one in every Walmart parking lot puddle.

Law enforcement said they’d get to it “in a while”

Apparently the second part is not enforced.

So if it’s endangered why can’t they trap and relocate it like most wildlife agencies would do?
Posted on 8/2/23 at 10:37 pm to LegendInMyMind
Endangered, my arse.

Every HOA committee needs a Baw on it.

Screw all of these “conservationists”. They’d bring back the T-Rex if they could figure out a way to pull it off, and call it a great day for Mother Nature.

Yeah, man, screw em. What do they know, anyway?

Why is an invasive specie protected? Eat this motherfrickers.

This is the OT. Can't we figure out a way to blame this on the police?
Posted on 8/2/23 at 11:47 pm to jbgleason
You know I was just thinking all this is probably the result of the police throwing half-eaten donuts to the crocs at dawn and dusk.

When are people going to learn - any body of water in the south, you should assume there are alligators (and crocs) in it. End of story. Don't let your kids play at the waterline. Don't let your dogs down by the waterline. Why can't people understand this?
Forget law enforcement. Hire trappers. Catch it, relocate it.
Does croc eat like alligator? If so, ask for a waiver, pay some baws, and have a cookout.

Kill the reptile and let the Pugs do what they do, and that’s Pug about. Why does Florida have a hard on when it comes to protecting the creatures that would eat you or your pets? Kill ‘em on sight.

I'm an old guy. I lived in Winter Haven Florida as a kid. Winter Haven was called the city of 100 lakes. When I was a kid, the lake down the hill from my home, had plumped in white sand beaches with little kids playing in the water. It's not there anymore thanks to "endangered" alligators population growth.
