According to the release, Woods and the board “will work together to amend the policy board’s governing documents to make it clear that no major decision can be made in the future without the prior involvement and approval of the player directors.” Additionally, the release states the board has the full authority to approve or decline the proposed deal with PIF. After feeling like they were left in the dark when the framework agreement was worked out in late May and early June, players wanted to make sure the fate of the tour was in fact in their own hands.

The release acknowledged that player leaders asked that certain steps regarding the tour's governance "be taken immediately," with Monahan agreeing to support the players and their requests with the Tuesday announcement. According to a report in the Washington Post, a group of 41 players—including Scottie Scheffler, McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas and Woods himself—sent a letter to Monahan on Monday with those requests, including adding Woods to the policy board. Reports indicate that the letter was prompted by Woods.

I think this was always the best move for the tour. Get someone in there well respected by the players and who has a huge voice. Tiger obviously makes the most sense.

Our dark knight, Phil

Phil Mickelson Supports Tiger Woods Joining PGA Tour Policy Board: 'Awesome News'

I was a die hard golf fan not long ago. PGA tour and European tour.
Enjoyed watching, betting on and traveling to see live tour events.
Those days are over - professional golf is toast to me. I’ll watch the majors and some college events and that is it.
These guys are spoiled kids that sold out to a corrupt high bidder. Good for them that they are getting paid.

Seriously? What a twisted view to take. So trying to make things better for these players, their family's and any future player is now being spoiled kids? Phil has been correct on just about everything he has said. It's obvious that Jay Monahan is a greedy, power hungry executive and Phil pretty much called his bluff. The day the players wake up and throw that a-hole out is the day they can start healing the game of golf. Sounds to me like the players are on their way with this latest decision. It is no longer Jay's way or the highway.

It's too late now. They're not putting the toothpaste back in the tube at this point. But at least this will make the players feel better.

Phil a black night? Lol. The guy lost all of his sponsors about statements he made about the Saudis being “scary mother fukers” and acknowledging their murderous tendencies then went to work for them. Phil is no different than any other player who went to LIV. He took the money and ran and is attempting to justify it. Is he right about some of the things he says? Yep. He’s said a lot of bad things about both sides. Phil cares about Phil. That’s been made clear for a long time.

Phil needs to keep his mouth shut. I doubt that he speaks for all of LIV Players.
If the merger thing work out, Phil will be one that will have to crawl across broken glass to ever get back.

Phil said the pga tour wa sitting on mountains of cash and over 20 billion in digital assets
Yet here we are a year later and y’all are saying the pga tour is bleeding money and can’t afford to go forward without PIF
So how can those both be true? They can’t, clearly. Phil was dead wrong with how much money the tour wa sleeping from players. The tour has to over leverage the shite out of itself to raise these purses. Hence why they are in a money pickle now

Not a single LIV player wants to play on the PGA Tour.

Phil has only been right about one thing. The Saudis are scary mfers that have a lot of money to overpay professional golfers.

It would be hard to argue against it if you look at the revenue Youtube golf is bringing in these days. If a handful of youtubers are creating tens of millions in content per year, you dont think the PGA is sitting on ways to turn their access/content into billions?
The only way I could see that statement not being true is if every PGA pro was just a complete a-hole that nobody liked as a person and wanted nothing to do with them. In reality, there are a ton of awesome personalities that the PGA could be making bank on and instead they are just preventing players from being able to do so themselves.
