My stepfather was born and raised in Ville Platte. We would visit his sister and his neice and nephew back in the 80’s and 1990’s. Never thought of VP being gangster or anything. Just Cajuns speaking French and playing bourre

Enjoyed the month I spent in Ville Platte in 1994. Did a rotation with Dr. James Ardoin and felt I I got to meet the whole town. Unfortunately tragedy hit a few weeks after I left as Dr. Ardoin died in a helicopter crash.
Unfamiliar with this story, could you elaborate?

Just looked this up. Sen. Cotton introduced a bill in January to end that status. It is in committee.

That's so sad. It seems every time we eat at El Charro on the main drag the entire VPPD is in there having lunch. The officers all look so young.

Dr. Ardoin was an Ob/Gyn in Ville Platte. Actually I think he was the only one in town. He also would deliver babies in adjacent towns. Worked like crazy. Would deliver babies all night and be ready to go seeing clinic patients all day with a smile on his face. A really good dude. He wanted to become a helicopter pilot and be able to get from town to town quickly. So he took the courses, did the hours up in a helicopter with someone training him etc. I actually went on the helicopter with him and his instructor. A few weeks or month later while he was flying alone he crashed and died at the age of 33. I believe the investigation determined that it was partially mechanical fault and partially pilot fault.
A very sad deal
I still have a Ville Platte Medical Center shirt from back then (1994) that I still wear to this day.

Really sad what that town has become. I graduated in 2002 and it was nothing like this.
We had it good back in the day, man. I was shocked when my mom decided to move back there 4 or 5 years ago. Its a complete shithole now. Couldn't pay me enough to move back there.

Biggest act of treason against this country and its people. Ever.

Ville Platte is lost. White flight over the last couple of decades sealed its fate. Anyone with the means have moved towards Vidrine or Chicot State Park. Crime rate is ridiculous for a small town. Mamou is facing the same over the next few years.
No jobs. No tax base. Kids move off to college and never return. Those with the means move to Youngsville or Lafayette area. Sad. Evangeline Parish was a great place to grow up and raise a family.
