Any AmEx Gold Card folks on here?

Currently have an Amex Blue card which is 3% cash back on groceries and restaurants but caps at $6000/year then drops you to 1%
I spend way more than 6k a year on groceries/restaurants
Gold card is 4% back with cap at 25k which would work better for me but it is in membership rewards points, not cash back
How do the rewards points work? Do I have to get gift cards to places I dont give a shite about or can I get 1:0.01 cash back or statement credit as you do with my current card?
Not interested in platinum as it is more travel based and not worth the $750 annual fee for me despite nice benefits

Gather reward point, transfer to airline or hotel partners, book expensive flights. Usually the best way to get value rather than using them direct with Amex.

FIFY, unless you use points for hotels, airfare, rentals.
I use enough benefits to reimburse myself for the yearly fee. Namely, $10 Uber rewards per month, $10 Grubhub reimbursement per month, and up to half off subscription services like streaming and Walmart+ (which also gives me a free Paramount+ subscription). The points are just an afterthought but I use them for hotel rooms generally.

Why not do the blue preferred with 6% for groceries capped at 6k for $95 a year fee(also 3% back at gas stations), then use the regular blue ($0 annual fee) after you hit the cap

Thats not a bad thought
The regular blue is also 3% cash back on all online vendors (amazon included) which is nice

Been on gold for about 4 years now.
Point:Dollar aren't optimal with Amex, but you can often find some gift card options that are good. I got $1k in gift cards for 100,000 pts to Home Depot recently for a new garage fridge and lumber to deck my attic. Usually there are a few equally optimal gift card offerings that are useful for us like Home Depot, Sephora for my wife's makeup, and Zappos when someone needs shoes.
Otherwise we'll just transfer for airline points.
We swipe this card exclusively for groceries and restaurants.

I decline gold and platinum every time I'm offered. I use blue preferred for cash back and a sapphire preferred rewards card for meals, hotels to get points. I prefer cash back and lesser fee than points. Just me.

I use the points almost exclusively at Zappos and Home Depot where they’re 1pt:$1.
I actually have gold and blue card for the gas and groceries perk until the cap.

If you currently have the blue Cashback card, it's 3% on groceries but only 1% on restaurants. The other 3% category is gas and online retail (which was recently added I believe).

I have a AEGC. Wife monitors all that point stuff . Every month new deals show up that you can add to the card.
Very true.
