Dog overnight health issue...suggestions welcomed. Updated

Dog woke us up licking at his foot and kicking out almost involuntarily....has been at it for about 2 hours now.
No visible issue, no sensitivity to touch, just going mad chewing at his nails and kicking almost like he's trying to get something off it.
Poor bastard is dead tired, falling asleep while he's kicking until the aggregation wakes him up and he chews.
Seems like allergies but it came on fast outta nowhere a few hours ago, washed his paw and tried putting some cool/cold compresses on it, finally gave him a cbd chew hoping to give us some relief.
Any vets on? If it sounds like allergies, any issues with giving him benedryl? As I'm typing, now hes up pacing only to stop to bite at it or lick. Gotta get him some relief.
35pound adorable menace
11mo old
TIA

Give him a shot of Benadryl

They have allergies – This is the most likely cause of chronic paw licking and chewing by your pet. Allergies can be triggered by pollen, food, chemicals in the environment, and fleas. Flea allergies are especially common. Allergies manifest as itchy skin.

Was my first thought; especially considering breed, even though hes never had anything like that.
Just cam on outta nowhere, dude is in a bad way. Gave him 1/2 a benedryl in a hot dog, fingers crossed.

Good luck. Dogs are awesome

Hopefully the Benadryl will give him some relief until you can get pooch to the vet. Keep us updated.

If it turns out to be allergies, consider cytopoint injections. That along with cutting chicken out of their diet has helped tremendously for my two pups.
Chicken is the biggest culprit in food allergies for dogs.
Hope he gets better soon!

Do his paws smell like corn chips?
Could be a yeast infection.

Probably allergies. You can try Claratin or Bendadryl.

Damn, that's all I feed my three mutts. So far I have not noticed any issues. Started two months ago when I got tired of paying so much for Purina.
Leg quarters at Super1 for 50 cents a pound. Walmart has them slightly higher. Run through my grinder, add brown rice, cheap beans, oatmeal, mixed vegetables, cocoanut oil and a few other items. Make a large batch every three weeks. Dogs destroy it.

Yep same for my dog until I switched her food from chicken based to lamb and/or salmon based.
Benadryl did provide us with some instant relief but if we didn’t just keep giving it to her she would get right back to it when it wore off.

Benadryl is safe for your dog. Google dosage for his weight. Easy to find dosage recommendations online. If it seems to help, then as others stated it’s likely food. Change his protein and perhaps feed a limited ingredient diet (plenty of dog food available). Just make sure it’s not grain free or filled with legume fillers as that can cause heart issues.
If Benadryl doesn’t help then unlikely it’s allergies. Check in between his toes or under his paws. Is it red and inflamed? If so, could be yeast.
If so try probiotics (eating plain unsweetened yogurt can help). Make sure it’s unflavored and unsweetened as certain sweeteners can be toxic (xylitol is highly toxic). Antifungal shampoo and diluted vinegar spray can help. Vet can also write an RX

If it's allergies, it could be from fleas.
Even if you don't think he has fleas, it only takes one that could cause an issue.
Also possible is a tic.

Daily apoquel pills work well to talk to your vet.
Get some trizchlor shampoo to wash your dogs paws and the trizchlor wipes. That stuff works really well with paw infections. You’ll also meed to keep the paws dry.

I’ve given my dog activated charcoal on two occasions. It can be used if they ate something bad. Has worked great for me. Google for dosage.

Benadryl dosage is 1mg/lb. Give your pup 25mg. Don’t use activated charcoal, it binds to toxins in their bodies to expedite getting them out. Like when they eat meds they are not supposed to. Won’t help with allergies at all. The recommendation for Cytopoint is legit. That stuff is fierce on allergies

Go see a vet

Look deep in between his toes and pads see if the skin/webbing is red, puffy and inflamed, could be infected. Happens to one of our dogs a couple of times a year.

Our dachshund goes through this paw licking phase every year during summer. The licking and scratching at night sucks for us so i know it sucks for him. Took him in a couple months back, gave him some meds and he was fine until last week. Called vet, gave him same script and he is good again. Last week this ad popped up and made me wonder… Probiotic FB ad Might be what both of our dogs need once the summer allergies hit.
