Hey folks,

Coming over from Ireland for my first Tigers game.

Any reccommendations on gameday - getting to stadium, bars etc?

thanks

First, Make sure it’s a big SEC game.

Yep, which game are you trying to make. It's a big difference in your experience depending on if it's an SEC game or not.

Go to the stadium 4 or 5 hours before kickoff and walk around. Walk up to some tailgating groups and tell them where you are from. You will be treated like a king! Be thirsty and hungry.

Get near the players entrance 2 hours before kickoff. The band coming down the street sets the crowd into a crazy frenzy. It is worth experiencing.

Come in for Auburn or Florida. Hopefully both will be night games. Welcome!! Please feel free to just walk around to different tailgates on campus and say hello, people will be thrilled to talk with you and share food/drink.

There will be plenty of Irish bourbon whiskey for sure. Lots of Cajun food, and friendly Tiger fans will make you feel at home. Does not matter what game as long as its at night. You will have a blast and will never forget your first experience in Tiger Stadium. Enjoy.

The typical first timer recommendations:

1) Go see Mike the Tiger's cage.

2) watch the Band and team come down the hill. (times will be announced closer to the game)

3) walk through the quad (pretty part of campus)

4) Go see the parade grounds. (The college students tailgate here and it gets rowdy af for big games)

5) stop by the student union to get some AC.

6) go to the RVs and tell people you came from Ireland and want some Louisiana food. You will be offered food beer and probably a seat if there is one.

7) This is a bit of a well kept secret but the drumline warms up at the top of the hill next to the amphitheater prior to walking down the hill and its quite a spectacle if you enjoy listening to drums. Its my FIL's favorite part of gameday.

Top of the morning to ya mate!

Whatever you do, please do not go 2 blocks north of campus or Tiger Stadium. Baton Rouge is one of the most dangerous cities in the world. Don't test it

Do all the LSU touristy things you can. Visit the book store. Go to the ice cream store. Walk around campus. You might be able to bike the lakes on one of those rental bikes. I don't know the renovation timings but the university lakes are currently being worked on and I assume they will at least finish the Dalrymple side before LSU sorority rush begins.

Bars - go to Chimes for food & drink just to say you went. It's neat and a fun atmosphere before a game. Bengals & Bandits is directly across and you can get some pretty cool LSU merch there. Go to Fred's in Tigerland if you're into that. 95% of it is students ages 21+. Mike Anderson's is a good spot to eat at. TJ Ribs on Acadian is cool to see the Billy Cannon Heisman statue but the food is mediocre.

If you want something outside of the LSU experience, Government Street has a lot of good restaurants out there. If you can provide a more specific itinerary closer to the week of the game you're coming, do that.

Pick a big game and on game day, 'go with the flow'.

If you're in early or staying late, the gang will give you tons of bar/restaurant recommendations.

Irish Calling Baton Rouge
Still love this version. The band doesn’t even know anything about Baton Rouge, they just liked the song.

Brush up on your English, Mick. Just kidding, of course. I love a good Irish accent. Besides half of Louisianans can’t speak English, myself included. I hope you pass a good time you!!!
