The main reason Miles has deservedly not received the credit Nick Saban did was because Miles did not rebuild anything at LSU. He inherited it all.

Now, he's got his chance to rebuild.

nice closer.

It never was about JL, although too many people mistakenly jumped on that bandwagon.
All year our DL has done nothing(again, with the exception of Mr. Alem who should have been starting all year).
Our LB's are lost and don't tackle well. But, we do have 2 new starters so you can understand that some.
Our secondary is in shambles. Our CB's are inexperienced, but don't seem to be improving. Our Safties don't know how to tackle and seem lost on most plays.
Honestly, outside of a few players, it's hard to see much good on this D.
But, the talent is there. So you have to look at coaching. This unit has been poorly coached. How else can you explain that the entire D looks lost this late in the season.

If Miles plans to stay at LSU, he needs to fix the D before next year. If not, he'll end up an afterthought.

My thoughts on the QB's..for what it's worth!

I don't think our young QB's could ever work their way slowly into the flow of the game. Our defense constantly put them in a position of keeping up or catching up. This is the worst defense...I'm really scared to say it...since the infamous Lou Tepper.

The eyes of all LSU fans should be wide open in the next few weeks to see if Miles admits a mistake with the current co-defensive coordinators and makes a move to get an experienced DC. If he doesn't I fear we are in for a long couple of years.

They did point out that the defense last year was not good either and that was with alot more experienced folks than we have this year.
As far as blaming things on Lee, he is not an experienced qb. The oline cannot run block enough times to let Lee or JJ get the defense off their arse.
I am not sure when that quote from Chad Jones was made, but I interpret it as the players are not focused on the play.
It always goes to coaching to take the fall.

I agree 100%. Good article. He was kinder than I would have been, but all very true except that right now, Miles is not a very good coach. That was overstating it. Unfortunately the man now has to rebuild what he's allowed to crumble in a very short time. Our program is headed south much quicker than it was ever built up by Saban.

Well stated, couldn't agree more!

I'm starting to wonder if we have great athletes as opposed to talented football players. I know some of it is scheme and some player development, but I don't see very good football instincts out of the linebackers and secondary (outside of PP, and possibly a couple of the freshmen that have barely seen the field). Hawkins has made the wrong read a number of times this year, the safeties are totally whiffing on tackles, linebackers mis-reading running plays, etc.

what this team appears to be missing are those guys who are commonly described first and foremost as "football players".

With that said, I'm off to the recruiting board and "ooh and ahh" over stars, heights, weights and 40 times...

I don't totally buy this. Since game one, our players on D seem to be lost. Often times, right before the snap, half the D is looking to the sideline waiting on a call. That's coaching.
Since the 1st game of the year, I saw something wrong with our safties. They always went for the ESPN hit. Problem was, they never wrapped up. This late in the season, I still see the same problem. That's coaching.

Agree. It is interesting to see how some sports writers are willing to criticize while some appear in the tank or on the LSU payroll. Check out Randy Rosetta's article from The Advocate.

Great article. I'm not a big fan of GG, but that hit the nail on the head. Of course, its about 3 or 4 weeks behind everyone else figuring it out, but at least he came around.

What did he say that was not true?

That we have young QBs that were not ready for the SEC?

That the co-dc experiment has not worked?

I think his article was a more intelligent read than the Rant can handle. Miles did not forget how to coach. I think, even without reading the Rant for advice, he knows that there are problems. My guess is that he is already working on changes for next season. But I have as much access to him as the rest of you.

This has been so obvious I just don't get it. Chad Jones will wrap up and even McCray if he can get ahold of someone will but the other safeties never wrap up. I'm sure they do drills on tackling but it never translates to the game. No fear of coming out of the game for not tackling is my only guess.
