What a joke. The moves were lukewarm at best. They added a guy who is iffy as a leverage reliever and replaced a multi-DFA level utility man with a slightly warmer body.

Grissom for sure a good chess piece of someone brings in a lefty to face Eddie late in playoff game. Then throw pillar in outfield.

Stupid he hasn't been training some in the outfield. Would be a dynamite platoon guy with Eddie

For everybody but the Astros. And most of them didn’t like having to give up Gilbert. If nobody’s a winner, then the best team in baseball wins the deadline by default.

Well, we did keep Grissom. That’s something at least.

Agree. Glad we didn’t make a bad deal just for the sake of making a deal.

We are the best team. Everybody else needs to try and beat us. We weren’t gonna do something stupid just for the sake of “doing something”.

I said a couple of days ago that I think they were positioning him to be a key trade piece if one presented itself. And he’s a more valuable trade piece as a SS. Now that he’s still here, I’m sure he will start to get some work in LF. Maybe not this year—it may be too late for that—but certainly going into next year.

Although, AA makes his big moves in the off-season. With Charlie aging and him and Max being in the last year of their deals, he may make a move to go get a SP this winter that includes Grissom.

But he’ll be here though the playoffs bat least. I agree that I love having his bat on the bench to PH against a LH if necessary.

Also brings a lot of energy that could be beneficial in the playoffs. Will be interesting to see how they use him the rest of the season/post-season and moving forward next year. But they’ve go to do something with him next year. Like I told Broski, he’s not doing anybody any good hitting .350 in AAA.

Why did the Braves want Hand ? He can't get anybody out.

He's lethal against lefties.

Why is it assumed that if we would've made a deal, it would've been a bad deal?

We could have gotten better today, but I don’t think we did. But I feel this way every year at the trade deadline. I don’t know why I expect anything anymore.

Because the guy we pay handsomely to make those decisions didn’t do so. If there had been a good deal, he’d have made it.

I’m always jealous when I see other teams really going for it, but I’m also aware that those teams rarely end up winning anything.

I think it’s fair to deduce that since no big deals were made (besides Verlander), that there were no good deals to be made. Or else they would have.

That’s the effect of expanded playoffs. Too many buyers and not enough sellers. Even teams that aren’t completely terrible this year can easily talk themselves into thinking they can compete next year and would be hesitant to move guys that are still under control. And fewer teams are desperate enough to mortgage their futures on rentals.

This is probably the new normal. Less big deals at the deadline. They’ll be made more in the off-season.

Nobody got significantly better today in the NL. The third wild card has made it the ultimate seller’s market every year.

Wasn't expecting us to make a big deal, was just expecting us to make more than one moderate deal.

No last-minute deals for the Braves this year. They built a lot of bullpen depth and got the backup infielder they needed over the past week.

Did they? Who? I must have missed the bullpen depth that got added

Adding a LH reliever who is really tough on left-handers makes us better. Maybe only marginally, but still. But we’ll get better the day Max comes back. And the day Lee comes back. And the day Jesse comes back. And the day Anderson comes back.

And because nobody else got significantly better, we “won” today by default.

That’s a lot of assumptions. But whatever. What’s done is done.

Im not worried
