Forgive me if this has already been posted, I searched and could not find.
Has anyone noticed that the Louisiana teal season starts on Friday, September 15? What was the reason for this?
Only pissed cause I wont be able to take off that Friday hahaha.

LDWF hates hunters, even young ones too.

I think it is because teal season can't extend into October

We should give up a day of teal season for the kids and the guys who used up all their vacation by August.

Allows for running the season on the latest 16 days of September possible. It also opened on a Friday for the 2017 teal season, nothing new here. Oct 1st is a Sunday, so teal will close on a Saturday.
Love the friday opener, kick things off with 3 hunts in a row instead of the usual 2.

I’d give up days if the powers that be would allow Mexican squealers to be harvested too.

Did not realize that. I may have to bite the bullet and take off that Friday. 3 days in a row doesn’t sound too bad at all.

Lol what who says we have to give up a day of teal season?? Had they followed the same weekend it opened last year, it would open on September 9th this year. It’s opening a weekend later his year.
Still curious as to why it’s opening later?

i may take off thursday as well. you know..to scout, maybe brush a blind, or just to drink at the camp.

assuming the birds are flying...I like your optimism.
Bottom line is that 3.5 days at the camp are better than 3.5 days at home.

Yeah it's time to start thinning these out. They are all over in coastal AL as well.
Plus they fly pretty slow so I can actually hit one

I like the dates. Sept 9 is early. A week later gives us a better chance to increase bird counts. Also the full moon is on the first and another on the 26th that may bring in more birds and cooler weather.

I just looked this up yesterday. I got my hip boots ready.
I prefer the late as possible start.

Speaking of teal season, I thought this was funny. If you haven't seen the not real lady on the plane, it won't make sense

I'm all about some TMFINR memes.
If I was on that plane in real life, I'd have gotten off.

Based on hunter feedback, most teal hunters want the later half of Sept vs the front.
Could it be too late and miss the masses coming through? Maybe, it's happened. Could also be done with the early season dates and miss them coming through after. I tend to like my chances with the latest 16 Sept days we can get.
Pay attention to what you kill, drakes vs. hens. The earliest waves of blue wings are typically made up of mostly drakes, with hens showing more so on the later end since they've been raising broods.

Teal season in SE La is very hit/miss vs SW La
I hunt Terrebonne/Lafourche - typically make 7-9 teal hunts with about 3 of them having any success
Don’t know why that is… areas I hunt, you’d think would be loaded with teal

I think we really need to all come together and lobby DW, ehhh DU (nets I know), LDWF (or your state's fish and game), and the Federal Conservation groups that essentially set the rules.
Weirdly, after the recent threads on them, I have an old DU 1937-1999 stamp print with 3d colored stamps in my office and I was bored at work looking at it on the wall and the 1990 (maybe 1991) had them on the stamp. Never seen one during big duck.

My contacts at LDWF tell me the hope to add squealers to the early season are a really tall order, that are likely to include making the overall Sept season shorter, AND the struggle with hunters ID'ing a big duck.
Most ("MOST") know a teal from a mottled duck given the size disparity in flight, but many would struggle with ID'ing a BBWD from a mottled, both being larg(er) ducks.
In short? Aint happenin any time soon, and if it did, you are likely to be giving up something you dont want to.
Want to shoot BBWDs? Go hunt fresh marshes below Lake Arthur and on just about any regular season day you can limit out on solely those if you choose. The numbers there even in regular season are insane.
